Thank you very much for this, helpful to see it in action. Just to make sure I am not misinterpreting some of the various combinations which are possible with the Manfrotto stands, extensions, etc. would you happen to know the specific part numbers for the various elements of the whole setup (stand, boom, etc.)

Many thanks!
Manfrotto 270BSU Stand
The AEA Boom incorporates the Manfrotto 123 Pivot and possibly the Avenger Alum 35 stand.
The stand and boom are awesome. The stand comes with the universal head. If you get it you can add various impact or avenger booms that are not too expensive.

The boom is from AEA and is no longer available.
Wonderful, thanks very much!
Out of curiosity, have you used a comparable system from K&M? For example, stand model 20811 and boom 21231. I'm planning to get either this or the Manfrotto one sometime this summer...

I never used the k&m. It seems really nice. My rig can fly some sophisticated structures which I have used.

I use the Manfrotto MA1004BAC, the Avenger (Manfrotto) 0045B (pictured in my multi boom surround rig pictured on the previous page here), and the K&M 20811. They're very different, with the 1004BAC lite duty, and the 20811 taller and heavy duty.
You're welcome to try them out Luke if you drive down to Marshfield.

If anyone's interested in a stand that'll get your mics (and/or camera) up to 23.9 feet or 7.3 metres, here's your solution. Nice wide footprint for the feet, and 3 levelling legs. Ideal for organ recordings (if you insist on height for these !)

You'd need to find out your importer/distributor...or it might be cheaper to buy direct or by Amazon, I don't know what their distribution chain is ? I think the brand is known in A/V circles...maybe start with the company website and work outwards. I downloaded a very comprehensive PDF catalogue of their product range, and they're Taiwan based (good to support the 'other China' !)
In reply to a price query on the YouTube video comments section, they say "thanks for message. Please contact us by this e-mail address : [email protected] for further information"

I ve just bought a K&M 300mm Base plate , weight 4.3kg, for 30 quid
Im adapting my 3 section 5' Panamic Boom to screw into the base hopefully.
I have shorter 3 section Panamic poles that also can screw onto the 5' boom giving 21'.
Its unlikely that I will extend that high, the idea is for a visually less obvious stand than my Arri or Doughty C stands and booms.

Roger, if you're prepared to brand hop for a moment, Gravity have a centre-of-gravity trick up their sleeve in the form of Vari-Weights plates...no tools necessary !
If the threads and clearances involved happily match...you might even be able to add 2.3kg to your existing K+M stand ?
Better explained in their videos than by me...cheap enough too, and easy to remove when necessary...see below.
"This 2.3 kg weight disc made of cast iron can be mounted on all Gravity microphone stands with a round base, ensuring a particularly high level of stability.
VARI-WEIGHT® – patented stability system for secure holding and simple transportation by means of an insertable weight disc"
More flexible - in that you have a boom - but if you want a vertical-only mic stand, it is still rather shorter and clunkier than the Manfrotto 269HDBU.
Cheers,
Roland
I have this, it goes to about 6 m with the boom vertical. In addition I have a DIY carbon fibre tube extension about 1.5 m long; total 7.5 m or so. Have to admit it is a bit wobbly fully extended, but settles down in about 15 seconds. Can handle a Soundfield and two stereo pairs all at once.
My adaptor is been machined soon.
Panamic Cathedral Stand for beer budget.
I have some weights from a Zip Up shelter that will fit the base Studer and I see K&M do something similar to Gravity.
I will post pics when my Boom adaptor materialises.
