put a disc dive from an old desktop and it works great but I am unable to enter the DVD menu,
it just stops on the USB and INPUTS
could it be I need to use the TEAC Drives
or should a 4x DVD+RW work.

Any help would be helpful

as well it has the first frimware and software and have not updated yet,
should I

Thanks

Send to authorized TASCAM repair for service. These problems are why the seller sold it.

I am in Canada and Teac Canada is gone,
pretty sure tried to call and other shops would just ship to cali,
my Plextor drive let me play cds and write and play cdr s ,
but in the the menu it just wont stop on DVD menu so to me it is not seeing things as a DVD,
I would prefer to fix myself it seems it was the drive ,
but the first frimware and CPU ware might be an issue as well.

The seller was quite fair and after I tried it he saw it was broken accepted my tiny offer for the machine,
I changed the drive and it does everything but let me into the DVD menu,

I am going to get the TEAC drive that it came with and update the wares.
we shall see after that,
thanks

TASCAM has a number of authorized service centers in Canada that won't need to send product down to the USA for repair. Search for the one nearest to you on the TASCAM Canada website:

I removed the jumper off the back of the disc drive(teac) and it fired up no problem records 441 to DSD with no issues,
but it now does not read CD s or CD rs.
hmmm..
Don t really care as the 192 and the DSD was really the need but it still is not %100
now I am scared to do any updating frimware and software...
do ya think I should go ahead with the updates , send it in
or leave it and use it....

It sounds great though.

Old thread I know, but in the interest of knowledge sharing, I just bought a DV-RA1000 and had the same problem.

The stock Teac DV-W516E drive was the issue. Lucky I never throw anything out, and had a Benq/Phillips DVD8801 drive which dropped straight in and fixed the problem.
Ensure that the new drive is also set to Master on the rear jumpers.
