AKG D 900 E information?

I posted this in the other So Mucho Gear No So Tiempo forum but those who frequent there don't seem to have any idea so I'll repost it here.

I got hold of this AKG D 900 E shotgun mic that is told to be out of order.

I have never seen a mic like this before, it looks like Darth Vader's old burnt and retired lightsaber, and I can't seem to get any worthy information about it online. Does anybody know anything about it?

There seems to be a screw rattling inside it, obviously it was subjected to an impact or something, and I wonder if it is worth my while trying to fix it. I suppose I need to lift the label sticker around the neck in order to dismantle this thing as I can't see any other screws on the body.

Any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

M.

I picked up one on ebay. There is no indication that there is anything malfunctioning either electronically or mechanically with the unit I have, but mine sounds absolutely awful. It is horribly bandwidth-restricted. I don't know what a new one sounds like, and I did open mine to see if there was a capacitor or something which needed to be replaced, which there wasn't. I don't know if it is possible to rehabilitate my mic but in its present state it is unusable.

The D900E was like a D202 with an interference tube on the front.

It's a dynamic gun mic..

Being a dynamic it is rather insensitive and I don't think it sold very well.

If I remember right it had a bass cut selector near the connector, if so check that - position or broken. Long time since -maybe some 35 years or so...
