Cheap is cheap means exactly that: for another 100 hours of development and another 500.00 cost increase they could of made this thing
rock'in for half the markets on the entire planet.
So far they appeal to churches, unsigned bands and small clubs. I seriously doubt these will be showing up on major tours with regionally or nationally known acts with following. Certainly not in pro project, broadcast, or major label studio's.

However, it's more than rock'n for it's intended market.

I think you are underestimating it's appeal and value in a great many sectors.

I wouldn't bet on it, but seeing as that was never the intended market, does anyone care?

I have spent some time at my local GC store checking out the X32. Also have been reading the manual. I definitely like the EQ's and effects a lot on the unit. I did notice that the scribble strips are not all the same....some are not as bright as others as was pointed out before. But if they bulbs don't burn out in 10 years that is what is more important to me, quality does feel prosumer, but hey look at the price. I am interested in checking the X32 out for my studio as well as for my church.

Hi Glen,
Great to hear you are checking out the X32. You might also want to download our free XControl application. This will give you a better look into the logic and screens on the X32.

In regards to the LCD scribble strips:
LCD’s and Backlights all have some sort of tolerances. This is unavoidable and both the LCD glasses and LED’s come from reputable vendors so reliability has nothing to do with it.
LCD’s by nature lose some of the contrast and brightness over time as can be found with computers and phones. Given the fact that you have 25 LCD screens in the X32, it is unavoidable to see some tolerances, this can be found even in products ten times the price.

Hope it helps!

Dear Temple of Light,

I have to say I disagree with your assessment. Many major top artists are inquiring about using X32, especially those who are carrying their own monitor rigs.

In regards to the impact the X32 is having, I would like to point out a few items:

SOS August 2012 article:
"The X32 should win the ‘Best Product of 2012’ award with considerable ease!"
Product Review - Behringer X32

We were just nominated for a Mix Magazine Tech Award as well.

You might wish we had direct outs via DB25, but I can say nothing in the market touches the X32 for connectivity:

We have 166 possible input sources all routable.
163 possible output sources.
- 32 in x32 out Firewire/USB
- Built in dual port AES50 with 96 channel i/o on each port
- 16 P16 dedicated busses

I believe we are thinking way beyond DB25 analog direct outputs. If you are using the direct outputs for recording, may I suggest using the 32 Firewire/USB outputs to feed your recording rig. Or, if you are using S16 stageboxes, each S16 has 16 channels of ADAT lightpipe that will give you as many direct outs, (post incredible sounding Midas designed preamps), to feed bigger recording rigs.

As I'm sure you can pickup from my response, we at BEHRINGER are incredibly proud of the X32 and feel we are bringing an incredible feature set at an untouchable price point.

Any word on an ADAT expansion card or a P16-I but with ADAT and analogue line outs units? Keen for 16-32 channels of ADAT I/O so I can use my UFX for live recording as a backup to a standard computer.

Otherwise I'm contemplating selling my LS9-16 with ADAT card and getting an X32, two S16's, six P16M's and a P16-I.

Same or better features than my LS9, way more I/O options, way cheaper digital stage boxes, very cheap personnel monitoring stations. Perfect to setup a rehearsal studio with, haul out the X32 for live gigs, slot it back in with a single cat5e cable to manage any studio stuff such as providing rehearsal recordings or tracking drums.

Really impressed with what I have seen so far. If this thing was identical but had a Midas badge on it, it would kill every other competitor. I know they're trying to change their brand name but seriously, should've put a Midas logo on it, would shut the haters up and would sell 2x more. The only thing holding me back is the Behringer name and nit having seen oe. Might try and arrange a demo.

Hi,
One option is with the S-16 stageboxes. Each S16 has 2 ADAT lightpipe outputs that give you the 16 mic preamps, direct out to ADAT lightpipes.

I have not heard word on a release dates on any of the expansion cards. As soon as I do I will post this info. I believe an ADAT card is one of the options the development team has in mind.

I hope it helps.

I would plan on two S16's, so there ADAT direct outs would suffice until an ADAT expansion card for the X32 came out. Just means I either have to have the recording rack on stage or the S16's at FOH and use them instead of the inbuilt pres in the X32 whilst recording to the UFX.

Should win? WTF kind of recomendation is that?
But hasn't yet. Let me know when you do.

We were just nominated for a Mix Magazine Tech Award as well.

Nominated against a field of hundreds of entries, again let me know when you win this coveted prize, I'd love to have a copy of it to use as a plaque on me wall...

Your'e thinking way ahead alright, but not in terms of backward compatability with existing installations, or future expansion. You are completely focused on the DAW crowd to the exclusion and mockery of real artists and engineer's.
Across multiple levels of music, education and generations.

If it makes you feel any better, I paid full price for a pair of MX9000's new when they first popped {$5K} and another {$3.6K} for a half dozen 8 channel tube "Magic" IF's. Not to mention several Line and Submixers, rack and outboard pieces.{Mx2642A, Composer Pro's {3}, RX1202, A Virtualizer, ETC...} I have sold most of it off recovering less than 15% of my cost, and plan on a pair of Venice F32's to complete my professional requirements.
Pity you all aqcuired MIDAS, i hope it hasn't rubbed off on them too much.

All I can say, is thank God for Roger Daltrey.

Dear Temple of Light,
Thanks again for you feedback.
You questions are answered below.

Question: Name one. Looking @ means the same thing to me as shopping for a used car, and they all are trying to do one thing, sell a car.

Answer: Matt Breunig - Monitor Engineer for the Killers is working with us as an endorsee of the X32. The X32 has only been in the market for 2 months. I am working with a number of other engineers, and should note they are calling us to get involved with the X32. In coming months we look forward to a number of great engineers and artists using this fantastic technology!

Question: Should win? WTF kind of recomendation is that?
But hasn't yet. Let me know when you do.

Answer: This was not my quote, it is the quote of an independent writer for SOS magazine. This is from a person who reviews many products and these were his words.

We were just nominated for a Mix Magazine Tech Award as well.

Question: Nominated against a field of hundreds of entries, again let me know when you win this coveted prize, I'd love to have a copy of it to use as a plaque on me wall...

Answer: It is an honor just to be nominated, as this is one of the highest honors in audio manufacturing. I would like to point out that this is an independent group of top engineers who choose the few products nominated.

From the Mix Magazine Tech Awards website:
"Initial selections are made in August by a Nominating Panel comprising more than 200 prominent professionals from all areas of the audio industry"

The criteria for being nominated for a Tech Award:
"Eligible nominees are those projects or products that, in the opinion of the Nominating Panel, represent superior accomplishment in their respective fields"

2012 Tech Award Nominees: SMALL FORMAT CONSOLE TECHNOLOGY
Behringer X32
Line 6 StageScape M20d
Mackie DL1608
Maselec MTC-1 Mastering Transfer Console
PreSonus StudioLive 16.0.2
Rupert Neve Designs 5059 Satellite Mixer

Question: Your'e thinking way ahead alright, but not in terms of backward compatability with existing installations, or future expansion. You are completely focused on the DAW crowd to the exclusion and mockery of real artists and engineer's.
Across multiple levels of music, education and generations.

Answer: Actually I think you have it the wrong way. The X32 is really excelling in the Live Sound world. The XUF 32x32 Firewire/USB card gives the X32 superb recording capability, in both the Live and Studio world, but the X32 really excels in Live Sound applications in particular. As far as compatibility, have you ever tried to use 32 channels, via digital snake, on an LS9 and also use an Aviom 16 channel discreet system at the same time… you quickly run out of the 2 available card slots. On an X32, AES50 gives you 96 channels via one Cat-5 cable. AES50 is also used by one very major, very compatible player in our industry, Midas, as used by the largest tours in the world.

Question: If it makes you feel any better, I paid full price for a pair of MX9000's new when they first popped {$5K} and another {$3.6K} for a half dozen 8 channel tube "Magic" IF's.

Answer: Thank you for considering my feelings and thank you for buying our products!
I have to say as an engineer for the past 25 years, I have had to buy technology that loses value. The first studio I worked in paid $5000 for a Mac Plus with 512K of RAM, the real kicker was that the 20MB external SCSI hard drive cost $6000! Or, the two Yamaha O2Rs that I bought with cascade cards for $21,000, that I sold on eBay for $750 each. Or, the Sony Oxford console that sold for $700,000 that now commonly sells for under 30K...(or comes in plug-in form...) or, a Yamaha PM5000 that once cost over 75K... and now fetches 10K online.…. don't even get me started on my ProTools HD rig… post version 10... compatibility! So yes I can identify with your purchase re-sale value dilemma. Bottom line we are in a technology driven field, as professionals we build this into our business plan.

But the good news is BEHRINGER can offer a system with:
X32 console
2 S16 Stageboxes
6 P16M personal mixers
1 P16D
All for $6500!
You could even add a second X32 for a monitor console and still be under 10K
Price out a similar rig from any other company with this capability, and it would be well over $30K. Can you imagine the loss on that investment?

Question: Pity you all aqcuired MIDAS, i hope it hasn't rubbed off on them too much.

Answer: Actually the acquisition of Midas and Klark Teknik has been a win-win for BEHRINGER and for Midas. BEHRINGER can offer you a 3K console with Midas designed mic pre amps and Klark Teknik AES50 digital snake technology into an amazing solution such as the X32! The even better news is for Midas who sold more Pro 2 consoles in the first month of sales, than all Midas mixing boards ever produced in the Midas company's entire history. To boot Midas is also nominated for a Mix Magazine Tech Award.

Question: PS. I hope you enjoy your job.

Answer: Yes actually I really enjoy my job. The Music Group's growth in the past few years has been tremendous. I work with an amazing group of guys who are really passionate about audio and we get to be involved with products that are transforming our industry. The pay off really comes when I show an engineer a product like the X32 for the first time.

Once again thank you for the support.

Hey Joe,

Any idea on when the ipad app will be able to control channel strip processing, eq, compression, gates, ect. and graphic eq's?

By the way, even though I would like to see a few changes in the console which I feel would allow Behringer to corner the project studio market with this console, I really like the console. Good work!!!

Joe.. dadgum... I can't make this webinar, but keep me in the loop for the next one.

Just purchased my desk today - had been on the fence for about 3 months. Can't wait.

You questions are answered below.

Question: Name one. Looking @ means the same thing to me as shopping for a used car, and they all are trying to do one thing, sell a car.

This was not a question, only a statement. ^

A retorical question devoid of need of response.^

Answer: This was not my quote, it is the quote of an independent writer for SOS magazine. This is from a person who reviews many products and these were his words.

We were just nominated for a Mix Magazine Tech Award as well.

Question: Nominated against a field of hundreds of entries, again let me know when you win this coveted prize, I'd love to have a copy of it to use as a plaque on me wall...

Not a question, only a statement.^

Again not a question only a statement.^

Again not a question only a statement .^

Again not a question only a statement .^

Even though you aren't very good at it.

Again not a question only a statement .^

Answer: Yes actually I really enjoy my job. The Music Group's growth in the past few years has been tremendous. I work with an amazing group of guys who are really passionate about audio and we get to be involved with products that are transforming our industry. The pay off really comes when I show an engineer a product like the X32 for the first time.

Once again thank you for the support.
If I can be of any additional service to you let me know.

I think it's great to have the opinion and support by managers and technicians from Behringer in this thread, but I think it's even more important to have the opinion directly from those using x32 every day.

So, dear x32'owners, don't be shy! write more opinions, reviews, pros & cons, everything!

We are lucky to have your voice and the voice of Behringer, here and now.

we're listening!

bye!

Hi,

I could not agree more!

Not to drive anyone to other forums, but the Sound Forums X32 forum, is very active with over 100 pages of comments mostly from end users.
We are only here to answer questions and help end users out if needed.

I've used it a few times. I have several friends with at least one. I'm holding off until the S16 is released. The main draw for me is the digital snake option. But the console is great. It should be at least double the price. It sounds fine, miles better than the Yamaha digitals. I did a quick AB with my Soundcraft SI Compact. The Behringer had a little more harshness to it, not quite as "smooth" as the Soundcraft, but it was barely noticeable. The comps, gates, and eq's actually work, unlike the LS9/M7. This is definitely going to be the LS9 killer. I'm so glad someone finally did it, even if it does have the name Behringer on it.

Forgot to mention the other competitor: StudioLive. I have a 16.4.2. It just got back from Presonus for a service. I guess someone dragged the case lid over the console and broke the pan knob off. I also had an issue where the screen was losing its backlight. The repair tag said they replaced the pan encoder, changed fader number 3 (I had no idea there was a problem), and "updated" the power supply (probably what was causing the screen flicker). A couple of days ago I worked on a 24.4.2 that had all kinds of issues. So to be weary of the X32 because of reliability issues is not really justified. I also had problems with my SI Compact within a few days of receiving it. I had a power supply fail on another one, apparently a common problem that Soundcraft has issued a recall on.

What about the S16, will it be controllable (Gain etc) without AES50, only via MIDI I/O?

Thanks

Hi,
Let me look into this with our development team.

The S16 has MIDI in/out which I believe is to remotely control any internal parameters. As the S16 is not released yet, I will get an official answer. I will also see if we have a MIDI implementation chart as well.

Hi,

Let me check with our marketing department who did this picture. I believe it is just an RTA app, but I will see if I can get the exact one.
