Question Recording lav for podcast?

Hey guys. I'm setting up a system for a church that uses the sennheiser 100 lav mics. They want to begin podcasting their presentations every week. I'm trying to set things up so that compression, etc. (which is not happening at all now, even for FOH) is done straight to tape (a handheld digital recorder, I expect. It'll wind up as an .mp3, so this should be OK).

I was thinking I'd just give them a DBX 166 for a channel insert? I also considered literally running the recording to a DBX 166 before it hits the recorder.

Any input? Any devices that would be better than this? Is my whole idea wrongheaded?
