Gear interested

I've been researching this a lot recently...stuff that's pretty well thought of is... (in increasing $$$s):

Midas Venice
Speck Xtramix (line only)
Chandler Mini TG (line only)
Aurora Audio 822 (line only)
Manley 16 x 2 (line and/or mic I think)

All the above are currently in production, for an older unit you could try the Amek BCII (Funky Junk ( in London normally have a couple for sale and they pop up on eBay from time to time), which I've heard good things about.

If you need really few inputs you could try something modular like Purple Audio or Tonelux.

Cyril at Raindirk Audio also builds custom rackmount mixers. Expensive but I don't doubt very high quality, here's the website -

Good luck with it.

The Trident S100 from John Oram is a darn good value and sounds wonderful. I use it constantly for location recording and analog drum submixes in my studio.

I have an S100 too and it's really great. The New Trident Dream Series has a great deal right now: 16 channels for $10,995.
See it at if you're interested.

Not sure what you mean by "a few inputs" but if you are talking about less than 8, you can get some seriously compact, but still high quality units by shopping at the "sound for film/video" places. Brands like Sound Devices and PSC at the reasonable end of the price scale and others like Cooper Sound that rival high end studio consoles with their price per channel.
