This is from a few years ago, the time has flown while I'm having fun... the wheely bit is a luggage cart from Staples, bolted to the lower box... Those are a pair of Grace 101's in a custom case up top, custom-made air holes where the power supplies go... just in case,
I dunno!
I record a lot of classical music. M-S technique, they sound incredible. As always, samples available!
I do use them for closer stuff occasionally as well - chamber etc., no rock'n'roll if that's what you mean! I've used them on piano successfully, acoustic (Spanish/classical) guitar and other acoustic instruments.
Here's a picture of the rig we used to capture Robert Gordon and Chris Spedding live from B.B. King's Blues Club & Grill, NYC in early 2008.
The Laptop to the right was used to transfer the HD24XR files via a Fireport to the clients external Firewire drives in between sets and after the show.
It's just good to know that someones got a collection like that...that it exists!
It really is a work of technological art....I might blow a pic up and poster it onto my wall...a few 'shandies' and I can pretend it's not a wonderful dream.
I am just waiting for stuff to install in my rack which I ordered yesterday, so as soon as they arrive I will make some nice pictures and post them here.
My flightcase will contain:
Rack Light
AMEK DMCL Pure Path 2 ch. Mic Pre-Amp
Headphone amplifier DOD (only 59,- Euros from thomann.de)
La Cie D2 19" racked Firewire Harddisk 250 GigB
Sony ES59 DAT Recorder for Backup ( just in case computer will crash)
Two questions, Plush:
1. Where's the DAV?
2. What is that little console?
Thanks.
Hiya DAV detective,
The dav electronics BG No. 1 is also there but not visible. Console is Neve 5442.
Huge transformer sound.
The only drawback to the Neve is that max. current output on the phantom supply is only 2.6 mA. That is insufficient for Schoeps and tlm 170's.
Therefore, outboard mic amps are used here. EAR, d.a. v., AMS-Neve 1073 DPD and a FM Acoustics ClassAmp from Ebay. Converter is the Neve DPD.
Recorders are Nagra V and Korg DSD box. Nagra is fed from the DPD and the Korg is fed analog out from the console.
Here's a recent Orchestral rig that I went out with for recording... 4 chan Vac Rac, 2 Chan Pacifica, 4 Chan DAV BG2, Mytek and Lynx 2 A-D, Sequoia recorder...
Pretty standard type of rig for me. Sometimes it is Pro Tools, other times Sequoia, Pres change on the music and venue, but this is the basic setup.
Mics are DPA 4006 on the tree, Schoeps MK2 flanks, Sennheiser MKH40 on woodwinds, Beyer 160 on harp, Neumann KM140 on Harp and Celeste.
I guess this is about as portable as I get. A car load of stuff... Sigh...
Here are some pictures of my standard festival rig. These were taken in 2006.
It's hard to see, but the bottom rack contains a Millennia HV-3D. The next photo is a closeup of the top preamp rack, and SD 744T safety deck. Finally, the two SKB racks in the background of the first photo are shown. One has a rackmount PC containing four Lynx IIA and one Lynx-AES. It runs Sequoia. Just visible is the other rack containing a SurgeX power conditioner and a Haffler power amp. The Mackie 1402 in the first photo is just for monitoring and talkback.
Here's a pic from a TV show I was doing in the UK last year. Sorry it's a bit dark, but top to bottom, you're looking at:
Roland M240R
HD24XR
4 x Audient ASP008
Lucid master clock
Brainstorm Distripalyser
Behringer 8-channel line mixer (was bought as a stop-gap solution for 32-track monitoring, never got used, not even once! Just as well it was cheap.)
HD24XR (safety recorder)
What you're not seeing - mics, custom splitter, yards of cable.
Does this count as "portable"? I can pick it up off the floor, just not all at once
Rig has changed a bit since then, and goes thru all kinds of variations according to the gig anyway... will get some new pictures when I can.
