Car / Motorcycle, and plane (unwanted) noise.

Car / Motorcycle, and plane (unwanted) noise....
...Probably trucks too, but I can't tell the SUVs
apart from the trucks.

How do I tone this down? Sometimes the cars are louder than the voice, but I can still hear the voice. What is the best way? Compression? I think I need a "hiss remover" with a whoosh function.

Check this out [putting attachment, {preview}]

I don't think retracking is possible.

A broadband noise reduction (BNR) filter in a DAW might take some out, but you have a lot of noises that will be hard to remove.

Compression will probably make it sound worse.

Good luck!

Yes, compression will bring up more of the background noise.

Filters and EQs will help, but you got a serious situation at hand.

All the best.

In my experience, the best device to help (not entirely solve) this problem is CEDAR, availale as both a hardware device and software. I prefer the hardware version, personally. You can rent them from several vedors across the country, as they are commonly used fror post production and broadcast networks.

Hope this helps!

I cannot believe I forgot to mention this device...

I've used the CEDAR (hardware version) and it's an awesome piece of technology.

Well, the good news is that the source is closer than the unwanted noise. Isn't that good? (Any tricks to get a close sound louder, and a far sound quiter?)

I'll look in to CEDAR (software version) first; then the hardware version.

Thanks.
