2Tk Solid-state recorder as a backup

Hey Slutz,

Nowdays i am running an HD24 machine with no backup.
I'm thinking about setting a 2 Track recorder for Backups (Running the FOH L&R to the machine).

My budget here is limited to 500$-600$, i butofcourse automaticlly thinking about Alesis's Masterlink, But there are those new Solid-state recorders that fits to Budget.

Any comments regarding the Marantz PMD-560/570?
Can you slutz recommend some other "low-budget" solid-state recorders that can do the job?

Best regards, Noam.

got an old laptop

That's what I take my stereo mix to. You don't need anything hi-tech, but a nice a/d converter would be nice.

I use a Zoom H4 handy recorder with 1 and 2GB flash cards. Small, easy, & so cheap I bought 2.

It's not the best thing in the world, but it stands up to every backp medium I used from the 1980s on. Emergency backup is emergency backup, right?

Hey

That's a brilliant piece of gear for my situation (&Budget), With 4 Tracks i can record the Main Mix of a show and the Ambiance as well (Using the internal mics).

Thanks, I'll check one of those.

Best regards, Noam.

I'm using an RME ADI-2 AD/DA converter, to the digital in on an M-Audio MicroTrack CF recorder - makes a decent "tiny 2 track." If I didn't already have the ADI-2, I would have probably gone with Marantz, Tascam or Sound Devices. I think I'm getting as good, if not better, conversion as any high end flash recorder. This company looks interesting - I'm interested in their pre's:

Hello
Does any of you ever passed sweep tone trhu the H4 output.
Set the H4 as an audio inteface for the test and run a 15sec sweep from 1Hz to 20KHz
I made this test on mine and heard distortions and crazy delays.

Can anyone explain that?

As I use it as a recording tool... no problem....
