Merging Anubis Audio Interfaces

Hi Gonzalo,

I of course appreciate your desire to record and process in DSD for your exquisite acoustic instrument recordings. Off topic, I'd suggest taking a look at the new Signalyst HQPlayer Pro. It now supports generation of files in addition to streaming, but most interestingly, it supports level changing and channel mixing, all in the DSD domain up to DSD512.

Best,
Tom

Is there any evidence that the DAC in the Anubis is superior to the DAC in the Hapi with the new DA8P card?
Thanks

Actually further up I believe it's mentioned it's much the same/very similar, except it's 6-channels with Anubis.

Won't be long until we can ask all these questions to Merging and get nitty gritty details.

Next week! Yay.

Are there any official Merging reps on this forum or is the Merging forum the only/best place?

Noted. This is interesting - that post suggests better DAC in Anubis but another post suggests similar DAC performance to Hapi/Horus.

We'll find out in days.

So what compact managed switches are we all planning to use with Anubis?

He's referring to the stacked A/D converter topology, (ala Sonosax SX-R4+ being discussed elsewhere on Remote Possibilities), not the DAC portion. The impression I received last October is Anubis used the same ESS 9028 chip used in the DA8P

Thanks Tom,
there is a discussion about Anubis on AS forum at the moment:

Merging Hapi - A few words about one of the best DACs I ever listened to, and that money can buy to make happy an Audiophile like me. - DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion - Audiophile Style

We would appreciate very much if you chime in.
Thank you.

Hoping to use Ubiquiti Networks - UniFi(R) Switch 8 because I have one spare, its small and has POE.

Are the ADC and DAC inside Anubis on daughter boards for easy replacement?
Thanks

Nice. But at least with the AM2 and XP2 rednets you get and second ethernet port. It is that kind of decisions I can never understand. They make a super quality super compact monitoring/talkback/recording unit, but you need to drag a switch 2-3x the size.

If the Anubis is PoE, than at least you can use the switch as wall-wart

Curious about the sound quality though.

For the "audiophile" aspects of Anubis we started a thread at AS:

Merging Anubis - DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion - Audiophile Style

Thanks for contribution

I can definitely vouch for the Ubiquiti gear, should you need it - a big step up over the typical consumer, Best Buy level crap. Serious gear at reasonable prices, and their management software is well laid out. After dumping one router after the another, I've put everything on Ubiquiti 3 years ago and never regretted it. The PoE is great too!

Quick question,
I've got two relatively new Mac Laptops, and one 17 inch from around 2010,
Other than the 17 inch, none of the new Mac Books, have a Ethernet port.
How are you guys using Macs with the Merging stuff?
Is there a Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter?
Any loss of thru-put, or operational disfunction?

I wanna buy a Anubis today, but worried about the connection to Macs!

Thanks guys.

I've used HAPI with the older 2014/15 MBP and a newer 2017/18 MBP. (Keyboard issues forced me to stick with the 2014 machine). HAPI has worked without a hitch with both machines.

For the 2014 machine, you need the Thunderbolt to Ethernet Apple dongle. For the new machines, a USB-C to ethernet dongle will work but may require a driver.

The only issue I've ever had was when I upgraded macOS without checking that it was supported by the Merging installer. A quick downgrade solved the issue immediately.

With Merging's installer, HAPI shows up as a regular Core Audio device. I assume ANUBIS is the same.

Just placed an order to ANUBIS, which will replace my trusty HAPI. HAPI was been flawless for me, but it's overkill for my purposes and ABUBIS fits my needs much better.

Does the merging driver allow the devices to be used by Windows for os/internet audio playback, or is it still ASIO applications only?

Looks like ASIO only on the Anubis specs page:

I do have a 2013 mac still with an ethernet port..
Even if there are adapters I find so stupid that a laptop doesn't have the ethernet port anymore..
Exactly right now that everything is cat/rj45 based and a lot of stuff is poe..

I couldn't care less if the laptop is 3mm taller..

just my 0.02$,

Apologies if this has been answered. Is the Anubis Premium is DSD capable only on the DA or both AD & DA ?

That's unfortunate, especially since this thing seems geared toward general monitoring

Any clever workarounds that anyone cares to share?

Wonder if anyone with Hapi/Horus has tried and can confirm it works reliably without issues.
