Stereo Recording a circular ensemble Condenser Microphones

Just to throw my 2p in...

I think I'd've gone for 3x cardioids, arranged like an XY, but 120 degrees between mics.

Pick one to pan centre, and the other two to left and right.
You effectively "unwrap" the circle, but you do have options for which musicians end up centre, left and right.

Thought it might be a neat way to do it. You maintain phase coherence, too.
