Should I grab this TLM103?

I have a chance to snag a tlm103 for around $600 basically brand new.

I have...

sm7b
sm58
rode nt1
baby blue bottle

Does it add anything that I don't currently have? How's it compare? Come on out experts and let me know....

Also it'd be paired with any of the following pre's...

langevin dvc
sebatron vmp-2000e
meek vc3q (hah!)

i like it alot... the price (as with all neumann stuff) has jumped up and down over the last few years between 599 and 1100... if it's in good shape with a shockmount, i'd grab it

good condition, sans shockmount - but it has the holder...still a good deal?

that's the generic shockmount that sells for the MXL mics and from On Stage, etc... you can buy that shockmount for $19 at your local dealler. it's not as pretty as the neumann

I use the TLM mainly for bass or guitar amp... it sounds really good. If you can grab it for $600 then go for it... looks like your collection is growing well. How do you like the Blue mic?

Tlm 103 rocks !! its somewhat good for pop vocals and even for rappers.
its an U87 for the today engineer! i talked with a neumann guy he said its nearly as good as an U87.

So take it for 600$!

ciao

No, you should use the shockmount.

$600 ain't bad, and most clients know the mic and respect it. It can be a good confidence booster, I'd say go for it!

of course it is as good as a U87.

The tlm103 is the bottom of the line Neumann, that means it is a good mic but not for the money.... You can get it for $600. If it is with a shockmount and case then its a good buy, if not then its not a great deal but reasonable.

The tlm103 is good for few things. it is in no way a sub for a U87.... I hate the mic personally but I work out of a lot smaller studios that have that paired with an avalon 737 and I hate working on that but the results are bright, but clean and good... not at all great!

the blue is really open and...sparkley?...at least paired with my langevin dvc.

it's really dope on female vox (and guitar), but it just doesn't have that *something* on my voice. that's why i'm messing with the tlm103 and the sm7...hopefully those 2 mics paired with my new sebatron tube preamp will give me some character i'm looking for.

i should do a shootout this weekend to test em both with my different pre's.
