Marc Dorsey - Crave

Hi ladies and gentlemen,

does anyone know this track? I love it! Great composition and delicious mix. Produced by Tim Allen and Larry Campbell; Recorded and Mixed at Battery New York by Chris Trevett! What I would love to get is:

Which equipment was really use here!
Instruments and Outboard (I think we all knoe about SSL and ProTools, but the rest!?)

Which treatments for that deep bass, shiny guitars and incredible vox did they do.

Oh and another good question: Which blind fool was so underskilled that he found no way to bring this man and this album into the international charts and killed that career!

I will ask him....

Hey, for a second, I thought you were Marc. He is a fellow singer and friend of mine that kinda became a gear head. I know he left NJ and went south, I will try to find out for you. I might have the song, but could you Mp3 it to me so that I can hear what you mean.

I can partially answer your question 12 years after the fact since you're still on gearslutz I worked at Battery when Chris was there, right around the time this song was done. He usually mixed in Studio A which had an SSL G+ console but I can't remember if it was a 4000 or 6000. I think maybe a 6000

The main effects outboard gear in there was either a Lexicon 480 L or a 224 (I think probably the 224 with the 480 in the main mix room), an Eventide H3000, an AMS RMX reverb, and an AMS DMX delay. There was also a Roland Dimension D but it hardly ever got used, maybe Chris used it, I don't know. There was also a real plate reverb at Battery that could be patched into and Lexicon PCM 42 delay. Lexicon PCM 70 reverb

Can't remember compressors in the room apart from 1176, dbx 160 and dbx 160x. Pro Tools wasn't being used there at the time. Tracks were coming off a pair of Studer A827 tape machines. Also a couple of Neve 1073 outboard pres and eq's but not much in the way of Neve in general at Battery

More than likely also in there was but can't say for sure Neve 33609 stereo compressor, GML 8200 stereo eq. Definitely the other mix room had those so maybe Studio A too? See can you find some old photos of battery studio A. There wasn't a huge amount of gear in Studio A, the main mix room K2 was the big kahuna with everything in it. Both rooms had Boxer monitors which sounded incredible.

Also I don't remember Chris ever using any special extra gear, he was the staff engineer at Battery and just used what was in the room
