Matching a mic to a "Slick Rick" style voice

I'm recording a rapper that sounds very similar to "Slick Rick". My current chain is Shure SM7B > BAE 1073 and I don't like the lack of air on the vocal. I'd like to try another mic with the 1073 preamp. Does anyone have any mic suggestions for under $1000.

Try one of the Neumann condensers you were talking about in another thread. If you don't have them yet then look at some of the Advanced Audio Mics. They have 47, 67, 87 and c12 clones that would sound great.
