[QUESTION] Vocal Effect

Heyho,

I was just listening to Tpains new song "5 o'clock" with wiz khalifa and Lily allen and wondered how he achieved a certain effect.

T-Pain - 5 O'Clock feat. Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen (NEW SONG) 2011 - YouTube

0:40-0:44, the layered vocals in the background

EDIT: Also, 0:56-1:00 in his other song "Freeze" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4k9qlQoXbg

and 1:30-1:32 in "Best Love song" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbYHm...feature=relmfu

I have about 3 years experience in vocal production, and am a cubase user but just wondered about this one, would really like to use it in upcoming projects.

Thanks a lot!

Doesn't sound like any special effect, the usual suspects like verb and chorus. Just sounds like some stacked harmonies.

I'm listening on my laptop though, so YMMV

Alright, thought it sounded deeper but I'll play about with some chorus then and layer them together, see how things goes. I'll post the results when Im done.

Cheers!

Its more about the harmonies themselves than any effect. I would experiment trying to sing different notes. Pay special attention to how each note interacts with the others, and also pay attention to the character of your voice. Theres a lot of subtlety there that can make a big difference. Do four of each one, pan them hard L and R, send them to a bus for EQ, compression, and effects sends and whatever else.
