I think 2010 already saw the comeback of a 90's style of music, Dance music.

as for boom bap coming back that's another story, I wish it would but I honestly don't think it will.

i'd say the things we enjoy about 'boom bap' won't be making a comeback any time soon. everything is disposable in today's culture. attention spans are at an all time low. no one is interested in substance or making music that will last - it's going to take a period of major social upheaval before that changes.

'90s hip-hop is something I hold dear but it belongs in the '90s. Hip-hop 'died' because the people making music got stuck in their ways.

i mean, influences, like how the 80's influenced the entire mainstream over the last years. not literally the return of the 90's and not strictly boom bap stuff. there was more going on in the 90's.

i wouldn't be surprised though.
people will have to get bored listening to 808 kits and auto tuned hooks one day.

i don't think today's producers have it in them to come up with something totally new so after the 80's, my guess is, they'll just move up one decade.

i don't really consider the newer hip hop **** that's popular now to really be hip hop. it's just some ****ty electro beats made by non-musicians with someone "rhyming" over it.

Damn, as this thread started for once I hoped some great stuff could possibly emerge again... but you brought me back to reality heh

What you described is my impression about the current zeitgeist and most aspects of culture... not just music.
