Do you wash your pop filter/windscreen?

I know that about once a week it needs washed. It starts smellin' funky, especially after some particular clients come through.

Yes. I occasionally spray it with disinfectant since people occasionally touch it with their nose and lips. heh I wipe my heaphones also from time to time.

Consider: Joe takes a leak or a dump in your studio and doesn't wash his hands (not like you watch him to see), and maybe also scratches his sack while he's doing that. He comes back into the studio and handles those things. Jim then put those phones on his ears or face in the next session. Yeah, that's a really healthy thing to do.

It's like eating mixed nuts out of a public bowl at the local bar. heh

I wipe those things down before or after sessions... things that get really close to or touch open orifices like people's lips or ears. Those wipes are pretty cheap and once a week is probably not often enough.

My main one is metal too and I need to take that thing and wash it in the sink with dish detergent then dry it off so nothing rusts. Take a good look at the grill of your pop screen. If you don't see little spit goblins and it doesn't smell like used dental floss, then your clients must all be dentists.
(Or maybe rap with their gold fronts in??)

It helps that not a lot of people record here. The rent payers here don't like the heavy traffic and I agree...heh

Still, I'm sure it could use cleaning. I'm just to lazy to do it...or more accurately it never really crosses my mind.

Even though I voted and am now responding, how are so many threads here considered pointless but this one isn't? It's just hygine, not that different from "do you shower daily?" If it is unsanitary, wash it. Oppinions should not outweigh logic.

hey there, this is actually my first post, but interesting topic.
I know of people who do not wash their pop filter tutt, but I personally believe in it as just good hygiene / courtesy to the next person to stand up close and get romantic with it hah.

Simple alcohol wipes work perfectly for me.

There's a little brown chunk in my metal one. I just leave it, because I don't get paid enough to wash it out...

"Little brown chunk"? Sounds like someone's mike placement is a little too low and to the rear.

I do but not only does the steadman work better than cloth/sheer, it doesn't require nearly as much washing.

What about headphones? Those get GREEEZY, and they are expensive, and you cant really wash them. I pretty much tell folks that I have cans that work, but if your OCD/anal/hypochondriac you should bring your own.
