There is no such thing as a hiphop console, just like there is no rap mike.
Any console that you get will work for whatever floats your boat.
Case closed.

No so.
Its all in the application and engineering know how.
As I said, any console works for anything you throw at it.
Its up to YOU to make it work.

Tonnes of hip hop is mixed on Neve. eg. Secrets Of The Mix Engineers: Fabian Marasciullo

Ditto with SSL. The closest you'd find to a 'rock' console is maybe API. They all work for everything.

But for 15k you won't get much. Better of using that to buy some good outboard compressors/summing with nice converters/clock. Or save up to $30-40k and get a good console with fader automation and comp/eq modules.

Exactly.

There are fools that say only an SSL for hiphop but how would they explain Timbaland using a Neve console then...?

People.. I don't want and i dont need 60 channel ssl console
i need something like digi c24 but analog so i can really do something to sound, instead of spending money on a big mouse for PT like digidesign controllers are... all i need is good monitor section (if possible, if not i'll get SPL MTC 2381), good eq, sexy look, etc.. and i want to use my hardware, not plugins for final mixing/mastering..
what about TL Audio M4 ?

toft atb 32 or trident 8t... one of these should be half of your budget. Then you could use the rest on some nice 500 series gear for more variety... Keep in mind that im suggesting these two consoles completely from what i've heard about them... I dont have experience with either.

I have mixed hip hop on Old SSL's 4000/6000 or 9000J's or old Neve's or new Neve's or a Trident. or whatever.

I don't think it matters as much with the board... I'd spend 15k on outboard gear instead nowdays. With a good Tools rig, and some good outboard, I actually prefer that to mixing on a Console. (except rock music) Still prefer the workflow of mixing rock on a large format mixer.

$.02

As much as I prefer analog world I'd gohead and cop a control24 and drop the remaining $33,000 on a big format lexicon processor a outboard delay (2290, harmonizer, pcm42 etc) a stereo bus compressor (sslg) some lavery a-d and get to work.

What about a Tonelux console? They are pretty much whatever you make them...

Or check into a Trident or Harrison console. I remember seeing some sick Harrison consoles for around 14K recently. How many channels do you need? While you said that 60 is too many, a 4048G+ would be pretty nice.

I've seen a few killer Euphonix consoles also out there for not much at all these days.

Keep in mind that you'll spend several thousands commissioning it. Your wiring will be insane and your electricity/HVAC requirements go through the roof.

This is pretty nice: SPECK ELECTRONICS M72-8 Console (local only)

Speck makes a killer line mixer for keyboards and nice EQs. I'm guessing this would have the best of all of that. MEGA cheap

If you are really set on a console, those TOFT's look really nice.

Like alot of the other guys said, its not really about which console you use.

Personally, I'd go with a C24 or even command 8. Use your xrack for analog summing. Throw a g-series comp in that thing.

And go with the SSL plugs.

Remember that alot of the "sound" of hip hop is compression. What makes the SSL and Neves so great besides their "tone", IMO, is the Compression on every channel.

People on here saying that 15k wont get you much is pretty ********.

If what you really want is something that is an integrated PT controller and console then you don't have the budget for that. If you want an analog console there are lot's out there. You could get a console and a groovy controller. You could also find an analog console with automation. pimp time, I'm selling an analog console with 48 automated faders, a total 88 channels in mix mode, with producers desks, an over 700pt patchbay
spare master module, spare mix computer spare automation card, tons and tons of cable harnesses, and a ton of neutrik and ADC patch cables, basically buy it and plug it in. very very very little additional installation required.
