Hi,

I recorded vocals on a pre-mixed beat (stereo mp3 file). I recorded the vocals with a Shure SM7b through a combination of a RME Babyface Pro and a Cloudlifter CL-1. I'm not confident about what I mixed and would really like input. Do the vocals sit well in the mix? How do I improve them to sound more in the mix/professionally? The track is in Dutch language by the way!

Just posted a new track. I Wanted to flip this sample for years but could never do it justice until now. You will no doubt recognize the sample, if not dig harder!

All samples recorded from vinyl, sequenced in a MPC 1000, printed and mixed in Pro Tools. A moog 'moogerfooger' MF-101 LPF pedal was used for the bass, this is now my go to piece of equipment for this type of processing. Overall I'm happy with the mix, I've been sitting on this track for a few weeks now and thought it needed more, but sometimes less is more.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to drop some feedback or critique.

Cheers

Thoughts?

I've been playing around with ableton for almost a year now and although I do see improvements from what I made in the beginning, I feel like I'm stuck in this video game type vibe for all the music I make. Any tips for maybe gaining a new perspective? Thanks!

Lo-Fi Slow Jam on the MPC2000

Sequenced on an MPC2000 Classic, mixed down on hardware + Zed R16 board, the analog mix was recorded straight out of the 2-bus.

Great track love the vocals and mixing . Who did the mixing and how did you get you kick to sound like that?

Take a listen to this beat, how did he get his drums so big?

So i was send this beat from a musician im working with.
It's a good example of the sound that i've been trying to achieve for a while now.
I notice this random youtube producer managed to get his low-end (kicks in particulary) sound very proffesional (with that i mean, ****ing huge).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiFEXsS9cTA

How did this producer get his drums so huge? How did he get his kicks to sound like that? I'm allways busy improving my techniques, and i've allways been obsessed with huge drums. I allways thought it was a pro thing tho, so used that as the excuse for as to why i cant get them big like this, but now i see a random youtuber producer making beats like that too, there's gotto be a secret im not aware of, wether it's some shabby Izotope preset or an actuall technique im willing to hear it out, thanks for the effort in advance.

It's very simple ... sparse arrangement, drums/bass louder than synths in the mix.
