I really love my AT4033a. I can use it on basically anything, and have a really go idea of what everything will sound like and how I can approach the mix when I step into a pro setup.

Blockfish. Saves so many bad mixes it's pathethic. Also, tightens up basslines and kicks like a mechanic.

It wont die... (more likely to multiply)

Event EZBUS:

I keep saying I am going to sell this thing, but everytime I do, a new use arises. Best use: I would take older synths etc with no headphone out and give their stereo out a channel. Instant headphone gratification. The 8 outs for those units could be left connected to their regular chain. Many inputs / tiny footprint. No fumbling around internally trying to route stuff to an individual out during composition. I could even lay out a scratch or rough 2-track mix to to get an idea down. Worst use: At one point I was just using it as an extra headphone amp via digital inputs.

Another for the SM57. Jacked my pops for it years ago as well as his 1970s fender precision bass. That's probably worth some change now actually.

And Art Pro VLA II

Golden Age Project Pre73 preamp. I used to **** on anything in the sub-$1000 price range but this thing is awesome if you're on a budget. For around $300 you can't really go wrong.

Favorite cheap mic

Rode NT-2 original version that was discontinued because it was too awesome. They go for $200-300 on Ebay all day and they are a great U87 clone. They were part of Rode's lifetime warranty and they will replace or repair it for free unless someone used it in a way that wasn't intended.

Akai S01
nice crunchy converters with low sampling rate, my hardware bitcrusher
bought it new in ´94 for not so cheap but today its like 50 bucks
You can even load the samples into one of the better akais and then import them into the daw/softwaresampler

SPl ADDA
card from their channel strips, I use it standalone, made a housing with psu and audio connections, it even has wordclock and is 24Bit/96kHz

CBS Audimax 4440A/4450A:
paid about 40$ for each, ruff´n raw sound with transformers and cool vintage industrial looking too

Altec 1589b:
nice pre for drums
you can use it as a 2 in 1 mixer also
great for 70 CDN $

Telefunken M15A:
one of the best mastering machines ever, easily on par with studer
very cheap here in Germany cause every radio and tv station used them in the 70ies to 90ies
80$

Lawo V975 summing amp
vintage card from german broadcast company
just solder some input jacks with resistors and psu and you are good to go
for 40$ you can sum up to 100 channels
