Your Dream Custom Console

If you were able to have your own custom console built especially for you, cost no object, what manufacturers componants would you choose and why would you choose them?
How many of each..etc?

Ok PSM....

32 channels.
JLM 990v pres on every channel with DI on the first 8 channels.
Pultec EQ on all 32 channels.
Direct outs on every channel with option for pre/post eq.
Modular design.
Standalone (Sidecar) Passive summing matrix with juicy old school transformers, connected via proprietary cable (DB25 cables??)
Makeup gain preamp module for summing matrix with variable input/output transformers switch (3 different types) from Clean, Vintage, Modern.
Standalone power supply.
Long throw Faders
Nice sized knobs for the trim, send and eq pots.
Meter Bridge!!
At least 8 mono sub groups with inserts on each, it would be cool if there was tranformers on these so you could drive the groups a little.
Foldback switch for all group sends. Nice for beefing up drums and bass.
Talkback mic.

I think adding any automation would overcomplicate matters, make just
Dunno if I forgot anything.

There's my stab at it.

Peace
Illumination

Dream... heh

A 48 fader analog console with DAW control.
Each channel strip would have a preamp Emulator, compressor/gate emulator, EQ emulator.
Each Emulator would sound 99% like the hardware units. Would be able to select any Brand and/or unit ever released.
Mic, DI, Line inputs, 6 AUX sends (stereo returns) on each strip, with option to sent to the 4 built-in Effects Emulators or external sources.
8 additional stereo inputs with level/pan controls.
3 Master Bus Emulators
10 year unlimited warranty

But instead of buying..I'd be the company building and selling them to studios.

but seriously.. I'd take a 32 fader SSL Duality with ICON DAW control. CH 9-16 API preamps, Ch 17-24 Neve Preamps, CH 25-32 RADIAL Active DI's that can be re-routed to any mic onboard mic pre.

Screw all that other stuff... I'd get this custom Helios console with 1176's built into the meter bridge.

I guess it suffered some serious water damage 10 or 20 years ago and is not longer functional... it's a shame because I would definitely buy it.

Big ups to Jamaica!

I'm sure i could envision a better ultimate console, however, in the real world, I've very seriously thought about once i pay off the AWS 900, buying a second one and strapping them both together to make one console. I dont think it would be much of a challenge.

I think the 900 is pretty close to exactly what i want, but i would modify it with the following

3 mix busses instead of 2

compression on each channel

GML 4 band EQ on channels 1-8

an option to expand out the console to 32 or 48

better faders that dont stick all the time

I'm a simple man. I dont need much to make hitsheh

cool thread PSM!

The Helios type 69 UAD 1 plug in is awesome as well.
The "Jah Mon" preset is awesome on reggae bass or any bass for that matter.
Just be careful if you use it on an 808 kick as it might blow off the doors in the ol 'Escalade!!

Sorry I don't know much about consoles, but i think this will be enough for me. I'm more into hip-hop/r&b/pop

  • 24 Channels (FULL DAW CONTROL)/All Channels has API 550B Eq's, Avalon 737 Channel Strips, and Apogee Rosetta's/4 Sends and Return busses.
  • Built-in World Clock.
  • Computer Keyboard/mouse and Computer (dual) Monitor Bays.
I think that senough for me, not so many channels, i just use the mouse to control the other faders. Maybe im over doing it with the AD/DA converters on ever channel but i dunno you tell me....

I still wonder if it was a prank.
