api 3124...how sound this ???

hello...i am thinking to buy an api 3124 for my mpc , my se-1x and my voice...
then the chain is: mpc, se-x1, at4040 to 3124 to fireface800....

but...how is the sound of the api 3124?

i don't wanna pre "brillant, uncolored,..." i love sound warm punchy, old, aggressive...
finally...i hear a difference with this pre in my chain, also with my mpc...or not??

thanks everybody, i hope someone can help me because i wanna buy today

the 3124 will definitely give your drums some flavor. you might also wanna consider getting an api lunchbox with the 512c's. if your interested in more flexibility, that would be the way to go and save you money in the long run if you wanna add to your chain. do a search on "500 series". hope this points you in the right direction.

i have yet considered the 512c but with the 3124 i have 4 channel.....2 for the mpc, one for the voice and one for my se-1x....i think is a good solutions...you don't think?
otherwise i can buy a lunchbox with 3 512c, 2 for mpc and 1 one for the voice.....what is best ?? thanks

Will you be tracking your synth, mpc and voice at the same time?

You could probably get away with only 2 channels.

i'd get a lunch box and stuff it with 2 pairs of pre's for different tracking/DI flavor.

lots of mic pre colors avail...(purple, a-design,shadow hills, buzz, gr, api etc)

not knocking 3124...

i had vintage api 312. awesome for tracking drums. didnt dig it as much on rap vocals for some reason. (still great river mp2nv for this).

ended up selling 312. however you cant go wrong w/ api stuff. period.

good luck

API 3124 is perfectly suited for drums. I'd take it over a couple of Germs any day.

I dig the 3124, but I gotta say, for most drum purposes (especially if you're doing lotsa hip hop), a Lunchbox with some 512s will blow the 3124 away.

They're faster and bigger on the bottom. At least at my place...
