hip hop vocal delay

I have been studying various hip-hop acapellas from nas to jay-z to big and have noticed one similarity between all of them. They all seem to have a delay on the that make them sound kinda flangey (underwater, industrial, processed kinda sound). A perfect example of this is on nas's made you look acapella or biggies kick in the door.
Is anyone familiar with the kind of delay effects they are using- any plugins etc that can help me achieve this sound.

Or could it be a Slap-delay?

In that case it would be Waves Supertap

Slap delay if just a regular delay with a short(fast) delay setting.

Are these official acapellas ?
If not , usually when people rip vocals off an album you get that effect.

I would think they are using real Lexicons, but ya never know. I have the PSP 84 but need to spend more time tweaking it & getting the controls down. Sounds nice so far.

Screw imitating the ****e sound of warbly vocal isolation and napster mp3s.
Use an Echoplex or Fulltone and experience FAT
huge vocals that will set you apart instead of with.

eventide harmonizer is mostly what u hear. h3000. they all the way up to h8000 now.

i was there w/ trackmasters as intern on first BIG album and 2 Nas albums and a few others at that time. sat in on many mix sessions. every mix engineer had their own vocal preset on the eventide. even today on analog mix sessions.

for ITB in past few years i've seen waves metaflanger or doubler and the eventide plugs being used for tdm.

I guess that PSP 84 plug is reminiscent of a Prime Time.

This big boy can do the job if you need some nice delay. Gotta take time to harness its true power and abilities though, its a classic for a reason.
