Mixing or Untreated Room?

I been recording at home recently, fairly new to it, and in every track i record i get a very bassy/muddy/muffled sound around the 180 - 240kz area. I have tried eq'ing in several ways, adding a high pass filter, etc, but i still cant get rid of this one annoying sound. I am in an untreated room, and was wondering whether this was an error within my mixing, or if its just an issue with my room?
