The 3000 feels alot like an asr 10 or asr x pro. And I wondered why. Easy same amount of ticks (ppq) And know what I do Love that 3 to 400 tick range that so many tracks had like timbo, neptunes, pharcyde, el p, etc... Hence came Jay dilla killin the 4000 in his later years..and you could hear the diff I was sold. sounds spacier
Dude... Every MPC except for the 4000 works with a 96PPQ sequencer. So, the "tick range" that you love is really less than 100, and most likely imparted by either hand-played, non-quantized parts....or use of the Swing function(subtle or obvious)
The MPC 4000 has 960PPQ
EVERYTHING else has 96PPQ

....and the 4000 has a setting for off(96ppq), so you can get the same feel as on the others with quantize off.

96ppq is more than most players need.

If you want that cunky almost staggered feel associated with most the break beats feel of drumming 96 and lower is we're its at! SP & 808 plus other machines pre 1986 are lower ppq's!

Btw Think the mpc5k is a 960pluses per quater.
