90's Memphis hip-hop producing methods and techniques

Hello erryone, amateur MC here. I'm doing a Memphis inspired mixtape of my own using a ton of samples, chopping them, then recording everything on a cassette tape with a second hand deck. I want to keep the workflow and production values as authentic as possible, so I wanted to ask you all how did the Memphis OGs produce and record their songs.

As for what I'm doing right now, all I've done is chop up samples to make loops and then play with the pitch and tempo of the loops to make new tracks. I don't know whether to record my voice on tape then export that to the PC to get it on the track, or to record everything directly on tape then export the track to the PC.

Any comment and suggestion is greatly appreciated!

I know evil pimp recorded his stuff with a old tascam 4 track Gemini sampler and a Yamaha su10 sampler. DJ zirk and squgeeky had some digital 8 tracks with some boss dr5.
