Contracts when working with new Artists?

Hi Mark,

Could you specify some of the essential contract stipulations when developing an unknown artists(s) with the intention to get them signed? And/or direct us to what you feel are good resources for outlining such contracts? This includes co-writing, production, performance, and studio time at a facility you own.

I'm interested to know where you feel people go wrong when working with a new artist with the intention to bring the project to a label or publisher. Also, what risks have you seen that could be avoided?

Thanks for your time!

SORRY, I missed this one. A few things would be
Make sure you have your publishing splits in writing
Go for over ride points on the record if it gets signed so that you don't get blown out by the label, your tracks recut and you end up with nothing.
I usually go for a flat fee for every song mixed to get the deal and a bump for those used on the record
Read Donald Passman's books
Make sure you have a Sound Exchange LOD filed
