I mixed originally in Protools and wrote down the fader dB values for all the tracks and hard panned the tracks- left, right or up the middle. Didn't make for a pretty mix, but it kept pan laws out of the equation. 24 tracks in all...I tested PT, Nuendo, Logic and Sonar.

Won't the tracks panned up the middle be affected by the panning law? In any case, did you hear any specific problems with any of the platforms?

Yeah....I might try it again in the future with test tones on each track and taking levels off of the mix buss to make sure each track is level calibrated. Lynn suggested that avenue.

Other than that...no, I didn't hear anything foul.

There are ways around all potential problems in creating a fair test. It's just a matter of finding the time and source files that are high quality and royalty free. I think it would be supremely interesting to put the "summing dissenters" to the test.

I bethca if you could find the time, we could find the players to come up with royalty free tracks...
