Parallel/Buss compression

Hi Mr. Hogarth. Thanks for taking the time to answer questions. Just wanted to know what your take is on parallel compression and buss compression. I know you mentioned you compress tracks individually. Any tips or tricks on these methods?

I love parallel compression
I use it on many different instruments
especially drums, bass, vocals, guitars ...
I am a big fan of how it helps not hit the mix buss as hard and helps make more punchier immediate mixes
thusly
I do not hit my mix buss compressor heavily
I use a Dramastic Obsidion on my mix buss or a modified API2500
and I do not go any deeper than 2-4 db
I find when the mix buss is slammed deeper than 2-4 db
it closes down all the detail and depth of field i am creating

Hi Ross , do you also apply track / channel compression as well as Parallel compression ? Or do you just stick with parallel ?

What is the modification of the API 2500? What did you change?

the original 2500 was designed by Paul Wolff a certain way to sound a certain way
API changed the internal design early on
when its put back to its original design, it just sounds better
not that a regular stock 2500 is bad
but a modded one sounds better
I'll see if Paul wants to divulge his info ...

Thank you! Do you use seperate compressors for drums, bass, vocals, guitars? Or do you throw multiple instruments into one compressor?
