Analog Tape and Clasp

Hello Ross Hogarth
I am curious to your extent of tape use these days and if you have tried the CLASP system by endless analog or thought of using it in productions . Thanks ! Ariel

This is a simple answer
if I want tape I use tape
some of my clients still like tape and like to record on tape
i love tape when i don't need to do a ton of edits or the workflow allows tape

CLASP ... uggg
not into it at all

tape is magical when the machine is aligned with fresh tape
read that again
aligned correctly
aligned correctly
did i say cleaned and aligned correctly
when you record to it and the tape gets stored for a few days and the particles marinate like good marinara
then you pull it out and it sounds better
CLASP is the same piece of tape being recorded again and again used like a plugin where you go through it and it goes back to protools
do you guys clean and align your CLASP machines religiously like we do our record tape machines ?
"no .. not usually"
and do you keep a reell for each take
"no of course not .. why would you .. "

all the beauty of tape becomes a murky mess for me with CLASP
thats my experience of it and I'll be sticking to that story
USE TAPE
or
USE PRO TOOLS
and
if you use tape
let the tape sit for a few days before you transfer it to pro tools
it will sound better when you pull it out of the tape locker

The marination factor is real.

Haha, it's a relief to hear someone with ears as good as yours say that. I've been thinking that exact thing my whole career, but always just sort of assumed I was being superstitious or something.

Oh man- you guys just made me want to go back and re-transfer the 1" 8 track rhythm tracks I've been adding to in pro- tools for the past 4 months. You think they've been soaking long enough?
