Music theory in practice.

How important is in your opinion having a sound (pun intended) knowledge of music theory (listening skills, harmony, maybe possession of a perfect pitch, score reading etc.) for aspiring audio engineers? Could it make a difference in your choice of an engineer for a project (given all other equal)?

Probably not deciding factors, although it doesn't hurt. I think having great ears, great musical/creative sensitivity, great people skills, a feel for recording studio protocol and professional/relaxed demeanor are more valuable.
