Composing; how do you start?

Hi Thijs,

How do your songs take form? Is it just you playing in you music room, and when something sounds good, do you spend more time with it to expand on the idea and make a song?

Or is the composition already determined before you touch a synth?

Regards,
Jeroen

Well, I do not want to be vague, but I usually have an atmosphere and a certain soundpallet in my head. And often I create a moodboard on pinterest before i start with the music :-). That really helps me to make the right decisions along the way.

I alwayst start with a basic idea. The basic idea is mostly a tempo, simple rhythmic pattern, and maybe some harmonics. From there I'm going to build the track. Most of the time the bass has my first attention (maybe because i'm a bassplayer haha).

At the end, the final result is not always exactly what I had in my mind, but it still fits at least with my moodboard.
