Samples

Hello Again

I have a question about samples. So I think generally you use samples from vinyls and you make tracks with them sometimes.

So, what is the legal process of sampling? Do you need to pay for them or are they royality free?

Thanks in advance

<moderator message: On the issue of clearing samples: On all samples that you pull from any track, there's copyright (usually the original creator). You need to contact the copyright holder, and ask permission. It's better to do this in advance, this way you can make a deal. If the sample is changed beyond recognition, there's no need to ask permission, because it's not the same sound anymore. Hope that answers that part of the question. >
