In the background vocals overdub, why they don't change the microphones too?

Did the engineer consolidate the original background track into one stereo lead track center and leave the double tracks mono panned left and right?

Hi Derek,

In this case, we didn't want to slow the session down.

I don't change mics for BGV overdubs very often.

Joel just duplicated the tracks in Pro Tools, did the overdubs and panned them opposite.

All 4 parts came out the same stereo pair, but they weren't physically consolidated so he could make gain and pan adjustments.

There were time constraints at play here,
But also because I was happy with the sounds we were getting from two great singers.
I have used those mics for people like aaron Neville and Norah Jones... I had faith that we would get what we needed even if I had to crank some EQ on them after the fact during the three passes I got to mix the track.
