Which type of microphone and what mic positions would you use to record an Upright Piano and why?

You've asked the equivalent of how far can I go in a four-wheeled vehicle and which fuel?
As a start, close mic with a condensor or a dynamic, lid open. Far mic a condensor pair so as to get room ambience as well as piano direct, lid open or off. The wood front can often be removed also. Micing from the back/soundboard side with a pair of close sm57s is popular when accompanying singers as is sticking a barcus berry pickup onto the soundboard and blending with other mics.
Without more info it's not possible to supply more for your demand.
Good luck,
