Is there sample rate conversion on the SPDIF? Like on the Orion?

No, I don't think so. I remember asking about this. Zen does so many other things, though, can't cram everything into it.

There may always be some sort of financial contortions involved with bringing new products to market particularly with younger companies. There just seems to be more here than usual. "Economies of Scale" indeed!

I've seen one of the video where someone from Antelope is like "have you seen how cool it's?! It's not a rack! And there is a grip!
Maybe I'm a bit weird or I don't know but I don't see me handling a 2000$ interface by a grip, I don't see the point it just take place for nothing.
So still this question about the pre and a second one about line level coming in the combo jack, is it going directly to the ADC or does it pass through the mic pre with a pad? In case you want to plug an outboard preamp without using db25 or adat.

RE: Rack Mount kit, which hasn't been answered yet--The Zen is about 17" wide, so it will sit in a rack drawer, of which there are many designs made. One could bungee the Zen into the rack drawer, and pull out the drawer to access any of the I/O--INCLUDING the I/O on the sides. Seems like it might be a fair workaround in case they do not make a rack kit. I wish the adat i/o had not been put on the side, but I never use adat so it won't matter. I wish the handle would screw off, and I could screw on rack ears. But whatever, the drawer idea seems good.

Still no users ??

1º What about the latency thru USB?
2º Quality Mic pres?
3º What about the quality of the monitor control?
4º Good stability/drivers?

COME ON... info please
or maybe the Antelope crew is delayed or got latency with the launching.

the audio here was done on the Zen, gives a little idea, but I wish we could hear isolated files, and wonder if the bass was using the DI? Also wonder if all the signal processing was the Zen DSP alone?:

yes, that is the first video that was presented couple of months ago.

But the most important for me is, USB transfer, latency, AD/DA conversion (even when they say that it's the same as the Orion), preamps quality, stability/drivers and Monitor control quality.

This was tracked using the Zen preamps. The music starts at 7:40. Posted this video a couple weeks ago and posting another with an upright bass later this week. Btw, all the interview audio on this video are also recorded using the Zen.

Zen Mic Pre Comparison

Here are some FILES where we recorded with all Zen mic preamps and then replaced the Neumann U47 and Schoeps MK4 with expensive studio mic preamps that cost over $3000 per channel.

The performances aren't identical, as Miles is a jazz performer and we physically swapped out the mic pre's for each take.

As you'll find, the Zen's mic preamps more than hold their own.

This is a quote from 4-Time Grammy Winner Brian Vibberts. "The portable Zen Mic Pre's are comparable to the typical ones that I find in major studios."

Just set mine up. Updated firmware, all setting seem to be correct. I routed USB play to the monitor outputs and I'm getting clicking and popping in play back.
Any ideas on something I may have over looked?

Couple things, do a factory reset on the unit after firmware updating (hold down button until options show, scroll down to Factory Reset, press down button again, after reset, hold up button to escape). Also check sample rate in AudioMIDI setup if on a Mac.

Other Mac steps that are good for Orion or Zen are, open our driver installer, above under Tools, Reset Audio Settings (then restart computer). Also, make sure Orion or Zen are not selected under Audio/Video in the Messenger application's Preferences. One more thing that's good to do for Mac audio computers anytime you install something new is to Repair Permissions in the Disk Utility application.

Kind Regards,
Marcel
