Some new additions internally to allow us to offer an all VU Meter bridge, plus some control over where the DI output comes from and how you want it set up…There are some other mods as well.

Main difference, it is working! So it can be listened to...

We buy so many transformers and while they are name branded, they are not exactly wound the way we want them. We always have to work with the parameters of what any transformer company offers off the shelf.

To get a custom wound transformer from these companies ends up costing us a lot of money, so we recently invested into a transformer company and as such, we can now wind them to our designers exact spec…

So for the Trident 88, you can get mic input transformers on as many inputs as you want, and you can put output transformers on all the group outputs, as well as the main and monitor outputs…

We also offer an all VU Meter bridge if you do not want the standard LED bar-grapf meter bridge...

Nice. Are you able to say which transformer company you've partnered with?

And what are the sonic differences between the Lundahl and the custom version?

The company we partnered in is not a known "brand". They wind coils, motors and other specialist products and are not known for Audio transformers at all. What they do is high quality windings, and an audio transformer is not hard to do provided you have the right winding machines, access to all kinds of copper wire with different cores, bobbins, and outer Mu-metal cans…. We are confident that this company can being us the quality than any company we have used in the past can…

Rather than I tell you our custom transformers are better, what I can say is on one specific brand ours over the brand name had a more detailed mid range presence that we specifically liked.

So the differences are subtle so far, and we are continuing to work with this company and doing more models. What we are is, confident that the proprietary ones we are doing are very bit as good sonically, and quality wise, they are stout!

I find it such a shame that they've kept the same knob and layout design from the Toft ATB consoles... you simply can't get your finger tips between the knobs in the vertical strips when you are turning them... for me that is a fail on ergonomics for what is otherwise a great desk.

Wow, exciting news bout the Trident transformers and VU meter bridge! You just keep improving this thing! I've seen in pics that the VUs glow green- is this just a photo thing? Are they available in standard 'VU yellow' ?

Personally, I think the feel of the knobs on the Toft feel rock solid- as good if not better than the feel of a 1608 (who's knobs are also spaced very tightly.)

I agree, the knobs feel very solid and tactile, they're just too close together for my fingers! Maybe someone with slimmer fingers would fare better

Dave, the knobs on the Trident 88 are not off the Toft Audio console. The Trident knobs were recreated from the original Trident knobs from the Trident 80 Series Consoles. They are totally a different knob.

Some people with logs for fingers…and I am one them, might have an issue with space. I do not have the issue, and most everyone at the show has said they really like the spacing. Obviously it is too tight for you, but when you increase the space, you increase the size, and this is what we decided it should be.

Thanks for your comments though, and I think if you get an opportunity to work on one, you would be able to get around it pretty easy...

Thanks Alan, I was only going by the images & video I've seen so far. Given that they aren't the same knobs, is the gap between knobs any wider than the ATB consoles?

Alan, any price info on the VU Meter option for 24/32 channel versions ?
I was convinced before, I'm now totally excited about this console. It's the perfect option I've been looking for for a LONG time.

We will get more photos soon guys. We simply have not had the time to get the console into the photo studio...

I am extremely impressed with how many have stepped up already to buy this console. I think we sold 6 yesterday at the MusikMesse Show, and are getting close to some commitments for 40 of these.

Everyone who sees it, listens to it, and understands what we did on this console is very impressed. As for me, I am so happy in the way this project has come together, and I cannot say enough or give enough praise to our design team for taking my design concept and going well beyond it.

Sound On Sound and Mix are after us to get the console to them for review, and we are trying to do that as soon as possible...

More later....

Not yet Chris but soon. It was decided to offer it after about half of those who want to buy this console asked for it. The designer and our mechanical engineer are on it now. It will also be easy to swap the meter bridge out after the fact as the electronics to handle both VU and Bar Graph will be on the console.

Man, I'm starting to drool for a 32ch version with automation. Really interested what the price is going to be.

The fact that it's modular, 8 aux's, 8 groups with eq and assuming preamps and eq's are going to be very usable, this would fit nicely into my studio.

Greetings,
Dirk

We are a bit delayed, but not too much. As they are built in the USA, we had to purchase a lot of parts, which has taken time to get them...Production is under way, so once we fill the first orders, I am sure reports will end up on line...

I am still a happy Toft owner and was recently looking into consoles to step up the console part of my mixing studio. This is a serious contender. I am quiet happy with my 16 channel Toft. I see the 88 has a 16 channel version?

Are the inserts, monitor outs etc. balanced? On my version of the Toft it is unbalanced.

What would the price be of a stock 16 channel? And would those have the stock transformers on the groups, master and mic/line inputs?
