€498/£432.88 at Thomann although it's not in stock so it's just a guideline.

What about X-Touch ONE?
Is this product being realized and coming to market anytime soon?
My Frontier Design Alphatrack is on its last leg and the X-Touch ONE seems like the perfect replacement.

A vote here for the X-Touch One.
Especially if you can incorporate sending Midi CC messages option as well, like on the Compact.

Why is there no firmware update to the X-Touch? Abandonware?

They show colored displays but so far there hasn't been any indication of how to enable it or where it works.

I think the coloured strips only work when used in conjunction with their X 32 mixer.

I couldn't tell you that. I'm not sure they explicitly say this anywhere, but it is mentioned somewhere in the thread I believe and in some of their official X-Touch YouTube vids that the colors will work with that mixer, and it has been noted (again in this thread) that it doesn't work when used to control any of the DAW's

I am a software developer and if there were some extra Control CCs or something I could send I could add that support to Reaper at least, and possibly Reason (since the API is open)

Here is a picture of my xtouch in test-mode with all leds and colored lcds active.

I'm told that the missing timecode in mcu-mode is due to cubase deviating from the mcu-spec and therefor breaks compatibility. They are working on a workaround that would allow cubase to work anyway, despite it breaking the mcu-spec.

As noted earlier pressing 'click' does not activate the cubase click. This is because the surface layout is showing Logic controls mapping, like the real mcu. Reading the cubase document for mcu shows that 'click' is mapped to 'add marker'.

If one want access to the cubase click then you can program one of the function buttons for this.

Also note that not all buttons are mapped in cubase's mackie control when it is in 'compatibility' mode. You need to setup cubase make mode to 'cubase'.

As for a missing shuttle-ring. I don't recall any mcu ever having such control so it would not make any sense to include one either...
Hi Roblof!

How did you get the LCD colors working?

Just to clarify about the colored Scribbles:

The color scribbles feature for X-TOUCH controllers is proprietary to BEHRINGER digital mixing products, like X32/M32 and XAIR/MAIR. The text information from your MC compatible DAW will still transfer to the X-TOUCH scribbles in MC mode, but the colors can only be controlled from our other proprietary digital mixing products as this is something Mackie Control simply does not support.

Hope this answers your question.

I have figured out the colors in midi. However, the DAWs don't have a way to link to send the change command.
But one weird thing, is that to use that feature, I have to use a separate midi interface because it doesn't work when I send the data to it via USB nor there is an x-air via usb selection in its setup.

That's fine, but can't you enable the colors by sending some special sysex through MIDI and just have a small doc about it? Would be nice with custom impl. from Reaper which has Open Source implementations already.

Also: Will there be some option to smooth the fader motion? Some DAWs send the fader data out in slower intervals which means that the faders will be noisy and jittery. Other controllers have an internal interpolation to fix it.

hi there,
i´m glad to finally found this threat, so with the very different mentions and hints from you i was able to solve the problems and now give it back to the community:

We were testing the Behringer Xtouch with 2 extenders: (24channels) for a small project-studio:
A = Xtouch (firmware 1.15)
B = Extender 1 (firmware: control 1.18, fader 1.04)
C = Extender 2 (firmware: control 1.18, fader 1.04)
DAW: Cubase 9pro
OS: Windows 10 Prof.
on the desktop: C,B,A from left to right (cause i am righthanded)

#scenario 1: A + B
connected via USB-cascade in Mackie-Control mode
everything works fine:
16 fader plus 1 masterfader, select, mute, solo, transport, pan, plugin-control etc..
the colors of the scribble strips keeps white/blue, but the text shows in two lines all the parameter and the channel-names
>>great ! so we have a 16channel DAW-controller!

#scenario 2: A + B + C
variant 2a:
A + B + C connected via USB-cascade:
only A and B are working as under scenario 1.
C is recognized in Cubase under the same name as B (extender)
Problem: not sure how to configure it/ name it differently

variant 2b:
A + B connected via USB-cascade and C via LAN
to connect C via LAN we have to:
-on the extender C:
-choose Mackie-Control-Mode
-Mode as Slave, port 5004 (the PC is the Master)
-DHCP, waiting for connection…
-on the PC:
-install rtp-MIDI (from Tobias Erichsen | private stuff & software for audio, midi and more)
-start rtp-MIDI
-new session (name = the rtp-MIDI-session-name =hostname = PC)
-in directory add new the extender (with the taken IP from DHCP and port 5004)
-network-connection to C is established now
-in Cubase:
-add a new device Mackie Control
(name = the rtp-MIDI-session-name > see above) for both Midi-In and Midi-out
-note: all 3 controllers must run in Cubase-Mode, not in „compatibility“!
-restart Cubase after powering on all X-touches (Cubase does not recognize them bevor)
-open your project and sing halleluja:
>>>all the tracks are mapped to the right touch faders and channels on all 3 Xtouches

tip: to ensure that the rtp-MIDI connection is even on after boot/reboot of the PC, this runs automatically as a service in windows background, so there is no need to put it into the windows-autostart-folder or else ;-)

tip: i guess this (2b) is almost the limit under Cubase: some DAW´s do not allow two or more controllers with the same name.

Very special thanks to Tobias Erichsen for his great job !!! you made my day (and the whole year)!
################################
variant 2c: connected via MIDI only
not tested yet, after 2b works
i guess, the USB-cascade will fail (see above)
################################
variant 2d: connected A,B and C via LAN
not tested yet, after 2b works
i guess, that Cubase will recognize all three with the same name (same as in 2a)
################################
hope this will help all the xtouch-lovers doing more with this fantastic hardware.
have fun and make more music
greetings
Marc

Do you think the usb limitation is cubase? Interested if anyone has tried on reaper or live as ive got 24 channel summing id like to control without paging

Also, how do you feel about the motorfaders? Smooth/quiet/noisy/jumpy? Are the xtouch and the extenders the same in behaviour

@ Rtroost :
-somewhere i read: some DAW´s do not allow two or more controllers with the same name.
it seems to be for sure with Cubase, see above.
-the 24-channel-controlling without paging is possible, see my variant 2b, meanwhile tested with different projects, so we are very happy with that.

-the fader: i think the xtouch hardware in common is very robust and heavy = good quality /price
We did not have any issue with the faders or else yet.
The faders are the same in Xtouch and Extenders = feels like one big console
We read about some issues with noisy or hanging /jumpy / malfunctioning faders, but we can´t confirm that.
-there is also a known problem with different mixers/controllers, that some DAW´s send the „fader-information“ faster than other, leading to jumping faders or else. not only an Xtouch-problem. there is also a solution in the net available.
About the quality (especially the fader): don´t compare with a 20k€-Console.

have fun!

I'm confident that adjusting either of those things will not be possible with X-TOUCH in it's current implementation. Some DAWs might have specific options for adjusting external controller fader motion speed, but I do not know of a specific way to handle that request.

However, I'll be happy to pass your feature requests along to our product development team for consideration of being added in a future release.

That's what I wanted to hear! But German engineers can be stubborn. This needs to be implemented in firmware, and could easily be added as an option among those that you get when you press and hold when you start up. Same goes for coloring strips.

Not sure why you think German engineers are so stubborn, but I can say that our product engineers appreciate all of our customer feedback and do their best to satisfy our customers by implementing product improvements, as much as they are able to.

I will say that implementing improvements like you are describing definitely isn't as easy as you make it seem. (believe me, it never is) But if it is possible, then they will at least consider the possibility of tackling it for a future update.

Hehe, I have my experiences I made a program in C++ for Windows interpolating between the steps with virtual MIDI cables inbetween.

So if you have [--|----|---|], I fill in the gaps accordingly [-|-|-|-|-|-|]. Yes it will be a bit more delayed because of the interpolation and have to ramp up to the final destination. But barely noticable. it makes a world of difference and makes the unit look even more pro.

I love the X-Touch and I think it is an underrated and solid unit! Thank you for making it!

Yes, we totally agree with you: the X-Touch and the Xtender are really nice pieces of hardware and we love them too. We can not understand the underrating. There is nothing comparable under 1200€.
After getting them all to work with Cubase 9 it is pure fun, don´t wanna miss them.
So we advocate further development on the firmware etc. too. Please !
And we love stubborn engineers too

If I bought xtouch with 2x extender (24ch) , does that mean i will not able to use both extenders with usb connection .. only one extender is visible in cubase ??

hi studioton,

I refer to my post above, scenario 2, variant 2b:
all three systems are visible in Cubase, but Cubase (i guess some other DAW´s as well) cannot differ between the two extender (=same name!). That is also a problem with other controllers from other manufacturer's.
My workaround was to connect the xtouch and the first extender via USB and the second extender via LAN-cable (so this comes with "a different name" to Cubase).
There are still other variants to connect them, but I´m very happy with that configuration and it is very stable.
Next time i will try to connect all 3 systems via LAN (i trust in networks, cause i am an IT-network-engineer).

Behringer x touch extender naming issue

Having just connected my Behringer x touch extender to Cubase 9.5 and looking to purchase another later on in the year, Surely an easier solution is for Behringer to offer extenders with different names, EXT and EXT1, EXT2 etc this way those looking add more than one don't have to go down the Lan route. Of course this might be possible via a firmware option to rename your Behringer x touch extender. Maybe I'm just dreaming of a simple solution.
