This compressor caught my eye, and after chatting with Rob Roy about it, I can say its clear that this thing's visual aesthetic serves a really thoughtful and thorough set of performance design goals.

Electronaut M97 – AES 2013 Preview |

A pair of them might require a little more furniture and AC tonnage, but I'm looking forward to hearing them sometime.

Damn, I totally assumed this was stereo. Really wanted this for buss duties as well as for vocals/mono sources.

Ballpark of $5k..

So, ~$10k and a lotta rack space for stereo work..

At this point, on paper and in person, it sure looks like it should sound good. I know I'm not the only one who's looking forward to a test flight with those.

Perhaps worth it ultimately but a stereo pair dream for another day.
For me atleast.

Yeah I had assumed it was as well. It takes up so much rack space and looks so cool.

I'm thinking on a send or bus for some thick and gooey fattness. But we'll have to hear what it does.
I have an M63 and its frikking magic.
The design ideas on this compressor are about the most brilliant things i have heard of on modern gear.
I know Rob a little and honestly i can't think of a guy i would rather invest in to make gear. As a person, thinker and creative mind, this is the guy.
Keep a serious eye on him.

yeah, a friend of mine asked robroy in an email.
so the info that it´s a mono unit, with a function switch with linking modes for stereo comes directly from the man himself...
i hoped for it to be stereo too, especially because the m63 gets lots of in my studio. impressive product nevertheless!

If this is correct... Ouch. I was hoping for something around 2.5-3, now I'm going for the lottery option

RobRoy is one smart and passionate man.
That's always been the best way to attract me to a product.

His pre the M63 is a work of art and the M97 appears to be setting the bar even higher...including price. I left with a copy of his 3000 word explanation on the M97. While he didn't quote a price he did mention it would be expensive. I joked that it will probably be around $2. per word of his explanation

Gorgeous.

Heard the M63 and it is a wonderful piece of kit - I expect the M97 to be a stellar addition to his products, and this will be sought after by those that care about sound as much as they do the creativity of the designer.

Sadly, I will need to sell my children to afford a pair.

They're from Chicago (always a good sign :-) and popped by their mic pre a few years back. It was EXTREMELY well made and sounded good but I only spent a short time with it. I'm curious about to pricing on this as well as how he implements stereo linking with a second unit...
