Dear Gear Addicts,

We are happy to announce the release of Blue Cat's Freeware Pack II, a complete redesign of our free audio plug-ins for Mac and PC.

This release mainly brings new plug-ins to the bundle (dual channel EQ, stereo phaser), as well as completely redesigned versions of the existing plug-ins: new user interfaces, new presets management system, new MIDI and automation mapping capabilities, many new presets, Windows AAX support, and much more (details below).

The plug-ins are available for download for free as a single bundle or separately on bluecataudio.com, in VST, RTAS, AAX, Audio Unit and DirectX formats (32 and 64-bit).

Enjoy!

Thanks .

We have now mirrored most of the files for the bundle, so if you have been experiencing slow downloads on these, it should now be fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience!

Software

Blue Cat's Free Pack II has been updated. This new version mainly fixes issues for Pro Tools users on Mac, and also brings minor performance improvements on other platforms.

You can download the free plug-ins here.

New in this version:
- AAX/RTAS on Mac: Fixed audio engine freeze or error issue with Pro Tools on some Mac configurations.
- AAX on Mac: Fixed compare button that did not work well when using factory presets or any preset created on Windows.
- Performance improvement when running under high CPU load for other platforms.

Enjoy, it's still 100% free!

The Blue Cat chorus is the best soft chorus I've heard, for sure... I hope it's ok to mention another freeware chorus on this thread, though: The somewhat wacky MonstaChorus from betabugs. Very nice, too.

Thank you for your interest in our plug-ins. They indeed require an Intel processor.

An archive of older versions that used to support powerPC is still available here though:

The Blue Cat Chorus has the nicest sound of any that I've heard, and great for vocals.

They appear to have stopped developing any more plugins. I was hoping that one day they'd develop a delay and reverb that are as clear as the chorus.

Glad that you like our Chorus. We actually haven't stopped developing plug-ins: we have released a couple of new plug-ins last year in addition to major updates. (that can be considered as new plug-ins for most btw).

There does seem to be a problem with the Blue Cat Gain 3 plugin, in that there is no way to connect the left and right controls so that they work in tandem when trying just to boost the level of a stereo signal. Just a basic function that appears to have been overlooked.

The instruction manual for this plugin is really badly written too, leaving me somewhat bewildered. What's all that about groups? Is that purely a midi thing?

The non-dual version actually has just a single knob for both channels.

Also, you may want to read this tutorial for more information about how to use the grouping feature.
