nice! I like the balanced outputs. that was much needed. I hope the rest of it is as good or better then the duet one.

whats the point of the breakout box? Its just adding instrument level right?

I have my own pres so I dont think I need this. its still the same 2 outputs that need to be used by my speakers anyways....?

interesting

still don't think it's that much worth it to upgrade from the 1st generation to the 2nd. if i were to upgrade, i'd prob get the ensemble or something with more out's. till then, sticking with my 1st gen duet

Nice.....

I really wish Apogee or RME would make a true 4 balanced analog in/4 balanced analog out unit in a sub $1000 price range.

That is what I was really hoping for with this announcement. I guess it wouldn't be called the Duet though.

Looks very nice, I can't wait to hear what the sound quality differences are. Until then, I'm hanging on to my original Duet...

But this begs the question, what will they call the second gen "One"? The One 2?

I'm surprised that it doesn't have a thunderbolt port.

Will these ever be designed to work with a PC?

Any real info as to whether this works with the iPad? I don't see why it wouldn't since it can run on external power.

PC

Apogee is best buds with Apple, so probably not going to see this work with pcs.

If they could have added at least two more inputs to be able to run a stereo source (synth) plus a microphone. As is, one has to carry an external mixer.

And again no PC support. I work on both Mac and PC, having to buy two interfaces is annoying, I therefore probably buy a RME Babyface with more inputs, more or less equal quality, PC and Mac support and MIDI.

Nick at Apogee just informed me that they haven't tested Duet 2 with the iPad yet.

I believe the only way to connect it would be with the Camera Connection Kit.

Apogee seems to be cranking stuff out lately...but there's still a huge hole between the Duet and the Ensemble. Offer a Quartet for $750ish and I'd JUMP.

nah, let's just jump to the Septet. No out there has a 7 channel interface and it would be a pro audio first.

USB is unstable, slow, and depends on the processor while firewire has its own bus
(i don't know what that means, i just read it somewhere).
the problem is that you can lose data during the transmission if you processor is fairly loaded.

You just have to wait and see the what performance is like before making conclusions. Apogee are claiming "improved low latency performance" with the Duet 2 (according to the promo video).

For comparison Focusrite is claiming latency is just as low on their new USB based 24/96 Scarlett range as the Firewire based Saffire range. Besides I've never lost audio data from using a USB interface for many years now.

yeah, latency is a big concern, but it's not the point.
data loss if your computer is busy is.

whatever. so the big in&out difference is the now outputs and headphones are on 2 separate DACS?
this is not for me.

i'm a tad bit disappointed by apogee, they seems more toys-oriented now.
this is far far far away from the spirit that brought the original duet to us.
