I think KORG is badly in need of a new workstation. Especially after the so-so M3 workstation, I wouldn't give it more than a D, C- would be a very generous grade.

Let's hope their design department is not going for the cheap plastic look. They had a big hit with their M1 (during the 80's) great workstation for its time, Trinity (great sounds), Triton (decent sounds), M3

KRONOS ???? We shall see.

Workstations are great, but most DAW's users like me would really like something that's virtual based, but have the same sound as KORG Hardware.

Also, things like programmable arps that output midi are going to be really great (as a vst/au/rtas softsynth).

Workstations are imho quite cumbersome in a studio (great for live though) - maybe why previous workstations are not as popular anymore with many switching to DAWs and softsynths or a hybrid synth like the Virus TI polar.

Looks like a big step forward for Korg !

With all the features listed, I think they have a winner on their hands.

Well all that waiting for nothing.

Looks like I'm going with a 76 key Kurzweil PC3 (which is essentially the same as this Korg) or a 76 key M3.

I was hoping that my first entry into romplers could have started with something new and exciting.

Booo

....uuhhh, you may want to look at the features again. I'm missing the "essentially the same" part...

....or something that integrates fluidly into a DAW environment. I'm hoping to hear more about that in the Kronos details.

Seems pretty cool so far indeed. I was just reading some info that seemed to be posted early on the Korg.es page (looks to be taken down now though)

It has all the engines and expansions of the OASYS plus some extra stuff like a mega piano and some multi-miked drums. What I'm waiting to hear is the price point... If korg manages to price this thing in line with the Motif, Fantom, PC3K range, then stuff will be truly amazing!

We're probably looking at about half the price of the Big-O though.

Some more info and a large picture has shown up on Karma Lab:

Ok, will someone explain to me why ANYONE would ever do a demo of a keyboard and use those "ba da doo" a capella voice sounds?

Could you pick anything cheesier?

These companies just never learn what ACTUAL MUSIC sounds like.

Maybe I'm alone in my point of view, but... I really don't get it, why are workstations still focusing on B3 style organs ? I never like organs, and very little of today's modern/contemporary music uses organ sounds

Electric Pianos same things over and over again

Great sounding Acoustic Pianos They still rock my boat !

What is really needed are great sounding acoustic instruments, and Synths i.e.:

Woodwinds, Brass, Strings, Basses, Guitars, Percussion, Drums, World Instruments, Choirs, and of course ....

Great sounding Synths !

Anyone figure out how much acoustic instrument the new 'Kronos' workstation offers via the built-in SSD drive as stock sounds from the factory ?

KARMA technology is nice to have, but I wasn't very comfortable with programming/customizing KARMA parameters in the M3 (which I sold after one week of owning it). KARMA just has tooooo many parameters, and is kind of convoluted to figure out, or make any practical sense of.

Hopefully, they have KARMA in software format that can be used with the 'Kronos' Workstation as a plug-in. Going through multitudes of KARMA parameters, and menus, on the touch screen of the M3 was not fun

I'm still very excited about the new 'KRONOS' workstation heh
