I'm having some problems with Roundtone recently and I am wondering if I'm the only one with those problems and if anybody has a solution?
I've been doing a couple of large mix sessions with Roundtone on almost every track.
Sometimes I notice that roundtone doesn't sound the same when I open the session at a later time.
For example, I mixed my heavy distorted guitars and added roundtone, it didn't really take away any highs (I usually set the emphasis high) and just made it sound a little but fuller (like it's supposed to).
But when I loaded the same preset (in cubase) later on in another session, or maybe even restarting the same session all of the sudden the sound is way more muffled and dull than it was before..
Something seems to change the sound over time and I don't know why or how.
Sometimes restarting roundtone helps, but not always.
When the problem is there added more emphasis seems to make the sound duller and boomier instead of brighter.
Now I'm afraid I can't do consistent mixes with roundtone.
Any tips would be helpfull.
I'm using a W764bit PC with an I7-950 and Cubase 6 32bit.

Crazy, guitarjon I was just going to report this

Sonar 64, Vista 64

This happened a few days ago and I finally narrowed it down. With your confirmation, it must be it. May be it has something to do with the oversampling modes, but I'm not certain.

First reports of this kind, never had this problem here.
Thank you for reporting, we'll check soon!

Are you used to set multitrack machines (how many?) or linked_to or are you using independent instances the most?

Hey Bob, jon; yeah, I can confirm this and I don't use any oversampling because I mix at 96khz and don't consider it crucial. I stopped using Roundtone last week because I was tired of this behavior. Didn't report it because I forgot. It has something to do with the emphasis knob.

Cool thanks David, that helps to narrow it down even more. Although I do use the emphasis knob. Quinto, I use Roundtone usually independently so no linking for me.

I'll try to get the problem here. The new update is almost ready, luckily you reported this.

I've used it in a lot of mixes but never got this problem. I'll try to make it happen. It must be an initialization issue.

Could it be a tape degradation emulation?

I'm mixing in 24bit 44.1khz.
I have all the roundtones set to Linked to A so that I can tweak them individually but still bypass them simultaniously.
I also have them set to oversampling High at mixdown.
Hope this helps!

A complex algorithm we developed. Emulates the degradation of the default values

Hi Quinto,

Now that you mention this, do you remember we talked about it during the beta stage? I just did a search in my gmail account and found that conversation (March 3rd). I completely forgot about this, thanks for mentioning it. I even have an animation (attached to that mail) where you could see the problem. Please let me know if you need that e-mail again.

Cheers

I have that message, thanks!
After that one we removed a small initialization issue and didn't get anymore report about problems like this one.
Checking the new version now.

Thanks

Right...
These are the reasons why it was so slow:

- Mac VST 64bit
- Mac AU 64bit
- Logic stereo/mono issue

It wasn't just about the meter

But I hope you'll appreciate the new D**by mode

What's D**by Mode?

btw: Quinto...I've been using Roundtone on my mixbuss, other times taking it of, because it sometimes did "too much".
I know you once shared some defaults (looked it up) Would you suggest to stay with 30ips hard comp for the mixbuss,
to be on a safer side regarding coloration (it's what my ears tell me for now)

Thanks!

Just pulled the lil trigger on this... looking forward to having a play with it and joining in the Roundtone party!

Arrived late...but better that than cut to ribbons on the cutting edge...
