Hey quintosardo,

I was wondering, if i save my own presets on the first version of roundtone, will those same presets be able to load up on the new version of roundtone?

Thanks

I said yes, but I guess not.
While we allocate some space for future expansion in every plugin, this "gang" mode for Tape Machines required a change in parameters orders (due to how VST manages presets and parameters)...
But the advantage in having linked machines is so great that I'll stand the work with those 3 parameters

Back to the origins of this thread, I prepared a short demo with that piano sample (first page). It sounds really great, I'll try to upload the audio as soon as possible.

This happened to me an Quint took care of it with the quickness. I've used this on the mixbuss on a mix and really loved what it can do. I found myself dialing back on hi cut filters. This plug is really good. $10 or $100.

hey quinto I got the plugin this morning, have to say its worked wonders on a song for the drums to cut through one sections. Out of interest are there any plans for a 64bit version of the plugin? I've got it running through Sonars bit bridge and it's working fine but I don't seem to be able to link plugins to one machine like in the video demo (may be because of the 32bit wrapper in sonar)

Hi Jon Con, I think that feature in the video is in the next update

Will do some comparing with the UA Studer this weekend on electronic stuff (i do Techhouse). Anyway for 10$ it can´t be wrong to have this little gem in the arsenal. thumbsup

Been playing around for some time now comparing Roundtone to UAD Studer and can´t seem to get that nice head bump with Roundtone that i do get with the UA Studer. It´s just more "weighty" moving more air than Roundtone. Anything i can do to get that out of Roundtone except using an EQ before?

Is the oversampling selectable beyond off or 4x? Or is that 2x also?
I'm finding 2x will sometimes hits the spot when off or 8x does not.

You can compare the different ips settings, They get different head bumps, of course.
Being the effect non linear, you can experiment with eq pre and post Roundtone.
Pre-effect you get different harmonic content, post you get different equalization.
Another way is to increase action and compensate for highs loss with a post-eq.

It is 4x non linear phase (IIR) or 4x linear phase (FIR). It is 4x because, being the saturation about the second harmonic (3 x freq), 4x prevents any aliasing at all @44100 samplerate, while 2x wouldn't (20kHz x 3 -> 60kHz beyond 44.1kHz Nyquist from 2x oversampling).

Will try that, thanx for the tips!

Yeah I noticed that, then thought, umm that could help with adding depth perspective.

Nice move. I'm surprised more developers don't offer this.

Everything looks nice, finally...

- double mode 4x oversampling
- automatic oversampling on export
- automatic sample alignment and variable latency compensation plus mix knob
- machines linking
- simple linking
- level matching among oversampling modes
- programs and parameters management (standalone, machine)
- parameter's value display
- fine "shift" knob mode
- new algorithms (soft, mid, hard and comp 7.5ips; hard comp 15ips; 30ips, 15ips, 7.5ips "dirty" algorithms)

still a fast beta testing and we are there...

Looks very good Quinto

When does beta testing start? Just want to make sure I won't miss it.

Cheers

I just picked Roundtone up Friday and have been doing some mixes this weekend, drums, bass, acoustic and electric guitars, vocals. Wow, I am really really impressed. Roundtone does beautiful things, especially, to my ears and senses at this early use stage, on guitars and vox, but all over as well. I'm a bedroom studio hack (with delusions of grandeur...) and I don't understand the tech side of this discussion much, but I love the...fatter? rounder? warmer? sound...impression I get. Thanks Quinto, and I look forward to the update.

- automatic oversampling on export
I hope the oversampling is not affecting the sound too much
in many plugins, i find myself not wanting the oversampling on export
because on my ears it was sounding less good than the normal version.

- If it sound exactly the same it's fine

- If the oversampling can be heard, it may be cool to be able
to de-active it, to be able to have an export that sound exactly
as the mix we hear and trust.

I'm very happy with the Roundtone sound as it is, i just hope
to be able to have the new version to sound as the first one (or better on my export mixdowns !

Thanks for all Quinto !

The original part is untouched. Just select the same algorithm you were used to, "Normal" mode for oversampling (no oversampling) and it's exactly the same.

About oversampling (OS) and sound, there are five modes:
- Normal (no OS)
- High Q Now (IIR listening AND exporting)
- High Q Export (no OS listerning, OS exporting)
- Super Q Now (FIR listening AND exporting)
- Super Q Export (no OS listening, OS exporting)

I cannot work with an exported sound different from the realtime one, so I wanted to be sure we could monitor the final result.
Just select High (or Super) Q Now, listen to, switch to High (or Super) Q Export, work, close, export.

About OS sound being exactly the same: filters are very steep, but we have to make deep listening on different material.

It sounds like you have come up with a very flexible implementation of the OS.
Looking forward to this and all the other new features! Another fine example of developing, using input's from users, a very promising new direction, when done at this level..!

Are you considering releasing some more presets with this, or perhaps a user database on your site they can be uploaded to? This could help with the quest to find more ideal mix settings, more ideal warm settings, more ideal track only settings, and more ideal settings for those who want to have some warmth but not lose clarity. Given the new functions will add a bit of complexity to it (I do welcome them as they seem like they will be great) this could really get it up and running faster. I never use a preset as it is, I always tweak, but as a good start point.
