Love to hear some single shot samples of say a Ludwig black beauty snare taken simultaneously with several common usage pre's versus what the FOX can deliver. Would you use one mic and split it into the various preamps, or independent mics for each pre?

Cheers

Perfect, I got a few Black Beauties! I can line up some 57s on it (say 3 in a row) and put them all to various pres including the FOX.. that's safer then a splitter imo.

I'm waiting on the first production unit with the new fox faceplate, and then I'll post!

We'll debut final pics and audio at NAMM.. we'll also have production units ready to sell by NAMM.

This pre is really something. I'm looking forward to everyone hearing and seeing it.

LOL. Knock yourself out with cheap clones. Grab an ART and a Rane while you're at it.

Looks good, but with pres like gap73 out it's actually down to the price.
The design is bad by the way.

Talking price?

honestly the fox seems like it is going to be one of the best bang for buck pres out there... to have a stereo neve-ish and millenia-like pres for well under 2k USD is pretty bad ass by most standards.

Also won't it just feel better to have the fancy looking faceplate in your rack as opposed to that kind of fugly pre73?

I'm actually demoing the Dragon right now...Really awesome features on this thing. Love "Boom," "Bite" and "sheen"...Vintage seems to be a little less noticeable to me...Seems like it might add some low mids...Anyway - I'm working on a mix right now and running everything through a Helios Type 69 and the Dragon...Gonna do an ITB mix too and compare them...Not super scientific, but it should tell me if I really NEED the Dragon to improve my mixes.

Anyway, back on topic - if the Fox is as high quality as the Dragon, I could see snagging one pretty quickly.

Ya, I think it quite silly to say an amp whose parts costs well above the selling price of another (cheaper) amp would only be better if the price was lower or the same or close to it... whichever you were implying. It seems like another silly Gap-fan-club statement.

Slate has some great momentum with regard to their analog gear... not remotely touchable by the GAP line.

Two completely different markets and aim, sir.

BTW, why is the design of the fox bad to you?

With all the coloration options this should be a great way to use it.
I would like to know this as well.

GoldenAgeMusic told me that they can send one over within two weeks for the same price as the Dragon.

I also love my Dragon.

We'll have a lot of samples as soon.. Its a fun unit to use. The problem will be deciding which of the four mic pre shades you'll want to use! I wish I could print all of them and decide later!

I bought 2 of the GAP Pre 73's

and sent one back and the other one never gets used. ill say they sound better than most of the lower priced pre's

They dont hold up against most of my other pre's though. unless they are modded to death and you will have as much money in them at that point to just get good preamps to start with.

I am anxious to hear the Slate FOX!!!!

I am in the market for a few more preamps myself at the moment.

just my 2 cents
