Hey Jim. Is there any way to control the master fader of the DAW?

Hi Jim, can you jump into the AWS948 thread (or create a new one) and please answer the following:

-Are the "in-line" and "stereo-mix" modes selectable on a ch per ch basis on each ch strip?, meaning you can set it as ch 1 and 2 are in-line, ch 3 and 4 are stereo, etc.

-When in inline-mix mode, looks like the small (vpot) fader doesn't have a pan. Does it have at least a basic L-C-R selection on the TFT or somewhere, or does it just go to the Mix bus in C (always mono, same level to L+R)?

-When in stereo-mix, can you send a mono signal to a ch, like a kick or snare, and treat it like a mono signal so you can pan it anywhere into the mix?

I am still wondering how I can hook up all my things to it but I have to admit that looking at the hi res pics on your website it is really a beauty and I guess it could give my sterile post production facility ( 2 video monitors ,keyboard and mouse with all racks hooked on the sides) a huge change in appearance and workingflow...BUT I still would have to use a damn talkback+monitor box outside of it....completely bypassing the monitor section of the Nucleus. PITY
Jim..you should think of an SSL optional box ( 1 single rack ) with talk back (with also footswitch) and alternative inputs , DAW input , 2 or 3 pairs of speakers sets, that hooks directly in the XLR Nucleus inputs and outputs ..so everyone will be able to use the monitor knob on the Nucleus, monitoring what they need, just switching some buttons on the external box...just like presonus central station BUT made exclusively for this Nucleus with SSL quality..

IN this way you should look at your right or left ( where this optional box is put in the racks) just to switch for different inputs and outputs BUT you will be able can work centrally in the middle of the Nucleus with mic pres and monitor knob.

The Digital input can use Ch 3&4 of the audio interface so can be recorded to separate channels in your DAW in parallel to the incoming analogue mic/line/instrument inputs. A wet/dry control enables balancing of analogue (and digital) input and DAW playback for zero latency record monitoring.


That compromises functionality. Unless you want to use it as a DAW control only, I guess.

It could have been perfect for me if it had a couple of extra line inputs for keyboards. Fail.

At $5000 MSRP I really think it should have had some extra analog inputs, and perhaps an extra pair of analog outs. Not to mention more than just 2+2 channel audio interfacing with the computer. Bummer.

But it looks SOOO sexy! I want one for the looks alone!

Is there some info coming about hoe Nucleus behaves with the different DAWs?
I'm mainly interested in Cubase + Soundscape!
I have two Mackie Controls which can do a lot of cool things in theory, but most of them don't work with Soundscape. That's why I'm asking!

hi jim, (this is an AWS948 question so sorry if this is the wrong thread), but can you let us know whether current AWS900 users can retrofit thier consoles with a few of the new stereo stips? i assume it would have to be in banks of 8 based on the design--can you comment on this please? thanks, cheers

Or a set of ADAT i/o. There's no expansion capabilities it seems.

Nucleus is (ithink) about 75cm by 40cm IIRC. I'll try and measure one and post back.

Soundscape is having some work done on the control side.

Congratulations on what seems like a great product to fill a glaring gap in the controller space.

It is very frustrating that the Nucleus short-changed monitor/talkback needs. This would have been a MUCH, MUCH better product with only a little more effort.

These serious omissions keep this device from honestly being the "Nucleus" of a project studio system.....

Yes, it's too bad... With a proper monitor section and talkback facilities I'd certainly buy it. I guess I'll keep my central station and euphonix MC control surfaces...

Also.. Why not Firewire? Instead of USB for the audio interface. ?

So are the analog inserts able to also be used to patch in stereo processing on the master stereo bus? If so, would one then use the analog outs to print the mix back into the DAW? Or route it through the interface of the unit.

After initially criticizing it for not having a full "fat channel", I must admit, one of these would look pretty sweet at my DAW station. I already have a Dangerous Monitor ST, so I don't need it to have talkback or even a monitor section.

Jim, what does the 9 pin "terminal" port on the back of the Nucleus do?

Why not Firewire...Usb sucks for high track count.

- USB interface
- No audio expansion (ADAT, AES)
- No talkback
- No Duende channel strip controller
- Just OK preamps.......no EQ and Comp
- 5000$ MSRP.......hahaha

Though i like SSL product.............this one i'll pass.

They'll sell a tone in rich kids bedroom.

It only has 2 stereo I/O's. USB2.0 can handle that just fine.

I wouldn't call the Superanalog preamps "ok". They might not be what you are looking for, but "ok" is certainly an underestimation.
