Audio over Ethernet or external converters needed?

Does this audient include A/D and D/A converters over the Ethernet connection or is it strictly a midi over ethernet protocol wich means additional AD and DA conversion is needed?

Close, but no cigar?

This is what the SSL X-Desk SHOULD have been. Great job on getting it almost (see below) right, Audient. And seeing that I just sold my TL Audio Fat Track and Manley Vari-Mu, this could nicely fill the hole.

I'm also curious about the price...

Downside... I don't see any LCD scribble strips... That's a bit of a letdown... Four banks over and 3 tracks down in a 72 or 96 track project? Now where's that Rhythm Guitar fill?....

Will probably team it up with my Euphonix MC Control, then. Dang, hoped to kill 2 flies with one blow.

Say with me, all together now: LCD scribble strips! LCD scribble strips! We want LCD scribble strips!

C'mon, look at the cheap stuff Novation knocks out... How hard could it be?

Now that's something, a well thought out small footprint high quality product that will give the A&H Zed-R series a tough competition (X-desk doesn't even compare in terms of features heh) Hope it is affordable

Well... the X-desk doesn't compare, but SSL has the Matrix... this Audient is really between those two SSL produtcs. The price (as usual) will dictate the success. Being half of an Audient Zen maybe it will cost the half? 4.999€?

It looks great and I love Audient products, I was almost ready to buy a Zen, but it's above my budget... If this thing is not too expensive I will most certainly buy it, I'm just concerned of the only 8 channels record... For me, it's not enough to mic an entire drumkit.

i've suggested it before, so i'll suggest it again:

put this Dual Layer DAW control shenanigans into the full-size ASP / ASC consoles.

THEN, sir, you will have my full attention.

but in the meantime, fair play to you guys for really trying very hard to push things forward, deliver quality products and to give people what they want.

bravo. with scribble strips...

Don't panic - ASP2802 has 4 hi-res displays which show track names for the 8 channels.

Ethernet is control only - all audio I/O is analogue. We figured it was best to let people make their own choice of converters.

Bus count is:

Stereo Mix bus
2 mono auxes
1 stereo Cue send (which can also access the mix bus)

The Mix bus also has a summing input allowing direct bus access for up to 4 stereo I/Ps in addition to the 2 stereo FX returns.

Are the displays on the channel strips, or do you mean the ones in master section?

exactly.... or just make this board expandable with up to 32 faders??? adding more I/O

Looks like a great controller....but....I don't get it....

When I first saw this , I thought to myself this is exactly what I wanted...but... I was mistaken... Here's what I want...

8 analog input channel strips ( pre, eq, 6 aux)
8 busses
Daw control where faders can switch between being for Daw control, or
the analogue console .
8 ADDA converters
ability to add 8 channels (side car) for future expansion of channels(with 8 adda).

Now THAT would be the best of digital and analog !!

What I'm trying to figure out is why would you wanna mix throught this thing if you've only got two aux, and no eq ? What would this thing offer that I couldn't get with a mackie Control, and audient sumo, and asp8 ? ( now, if the price comes in at $ 3000 bucks.... then It could be interesting..

Will you have to use a asio driver and thus have to run it as your main audio device? Or can it be secondary?

Since it only supports four DAWs to start with (which is everything I need) I was wondering if you are using your own control protocol, as I would've thought Mackie and Hui automatically cover a lot more DAWs

Congrats to Audient for moving things in the right direction. I'm curious who the target audience for this piece is. If it's for people actually trying to record ensembles of music then there really need to be provisions for accomodating more than 2 cue mixes and at a minimum future expandability for more than 8 busses.

The future is looking brighter.
