What happened to Altiverb 7?
 

Is this ever coming out?

I bet they are re-recording the convolutions in true-stereo and possibly with better gear or maybe new convolution technology...that would explain the amount of time its taking them

It's true that algorithmic reverbs have been on fire the last while - if they want to be the "standard" again, they're really gonna have to bring it.

Altiverb 7 looked great when it was "previewed" 17 months ago. Now with "Spaces" from East-West, and the coming MIR Pro from VSL, Altiverb 7 may be too late too interest anybody. :facepalm:

Gimme a break. Do you know how much time it takes to make innovative software? Whatever they're doing, they're smart guys and they're working hard within their means as a small company. Enough with the rote facepalm stuff.

Altiverb 6 still rocks my boat. Sure I would like improvements, but if you can't get a good sound out of v6 the problem is not Altiverb. It is you.

This is my feeling as well. I actually don't see a lot of room for improvement. I have EW Spaces and I like it. But I will always love and use Altiverb.

I find the whole HURRY UP AND RELEASE IT! software culture grating.

Agreed. I feel that where Altiverb has an edge is with their IRs. They have been at it longer than anyone except for Sony and Yamaha. And they gave up years ago when Altiverb undercut them by $10,000. Remember, Altiverb's original IRs were full bandwidth but they edited them after a couple years to make the less CPU intensive. So they are still sitting on some of the best IR's recorded at some (almost MOST, now!) of the best spaces on the planet. It's still my "go to" reverb for many things although I am enjoying what the new crop of algorithmic reverbs are bringing to the buffet. Life is good in reverb land.

Not excited about anything coming out of East West. Just don't trust their abilities or judgement - awful samples, awful Play software. Interested in VSL but I'm still rather taken by Altiverb.

I share your strong distaste for EastWest, but Spaces is pretty great.

That being said, I'm looking forward to whatever Audioease releases.

+1 on the ilok2 64 bit. thats problably whats holding altiverb. and if thats true, id sue pace for slacking :cop:

I’m real puzzeled by the ILok 64 bit thing. Seems like there are plugs that have been ready for more than a year, but haven’t yet appeared reportedly because of ILok

FWIW Elicenser (used by VSL) has been 64 bit for over a year I believe. :synth:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but havn't a couple of plugin manufacturers (who use ilok) got around the lack of 64bit ilok2 support? I'm sure I read something somewhere, though just going through my plug lists, I can't see any of mine that are 64bit running on ilok.

On the subject of reverb... VSL's Hybrid has my ears pricked up.

Yea, it's been long time between preview and release. Perhaps the release of 64 bit DAW's and ILOK2 in combination led to this timeframe. Completely forgot about altiverb 7.

I see Audio Ease is now dabbling with algorithmic reverb to add "tone" to the recorded IR's - This should prove to be very handy. True real rooms miss the sparkle of Algo reverb offerings. This hybrid approach shown in the preview is brilliant in concept imho. Can't wait to test it out.

Also, the drag and drop approach of audio files into Altiverb makes IR importing fast and will greatly improve workflow/creativity. I can see myself going to big halls and museums etc recording hand claps with a portable usb recorder/mic setup and creating "simplified" IRs with this new import feature in Altiverb 7.

In mail from last month they told me it is around the corner I hope they found a solution to make smaller places to sound more natural as well... the biggest fault for me with IRs is always to find believable small rooms.

I hope AV 7 gets this done it would keep me away from buying LEXI Stuff....kfhkh

I don't think I've ever typed that sequence of letters here on GS, but this is a great update. I really, really like the new browser. My 46 year old eyes were starting to have to squint at the ver. 6 browser. Looking forward to the release. peachh
