very weird. The demo works fine in Ableton Live, but I can't get it to show up in my plugin list in Cubase 4. It IS actually listed in the VST plugin overview list where you can see the names of the developers and the location and all. Everything looks fine, I just don't see it when I want to insert on a track. Strange.....

Isn´t that great? While everybody claims that most software is all sterile and sounding the same we present you a plug-in with "real character". Most things that are not standard and not average do not work perfect for "everything"... but whatever the Vitalizer does - only the Vitalizer will do it... :-)

I honestly like your approach to test it on various and really different things, while I guess most people will try it for "their style" and decide if it fits their likes or not.

Also, when used in a mix scenario you might use it on subgroups instead of or in addition to the stereo master buss, this might bring even more variety...

Have a great weekend everybody, Dirk / SPL.

Day two with said plugin. Blowing our minds. Very finicky and experienced ears in the studio this week and everyone is knocked out. It takes a mix that's 3/4 of the way and almost immediately makes it sound done. Not for lo fi indie records, but if you're trying to get on the radio, this is the most help I've ever had from any single inanimate thing.

Man, I have been waiting for the vitalizer as a plugin forever!!!
If you really learn what it is doing and use it with (sometimes extreme) moderation in the right spots it can really work wonders. Having it available in multiple instances for single tracks and subgroups is such a huge benefit! Will buy it the instant it can Be bought! Thanks SPL!
Rock on!

Quite bad it does not work in Samplitude. The .dll is not recognised after being put in the plugin folder (many other users report this as well)

Has anyone made any comparison between SPL Vitalizer and this: VPI's - Mastering VPI's - Vitalizer - Cube-Tec International

As far as I can see it from the controlls it goes for the modelling of the same processor and CubeTec also has SPL licence on it.

So it would be really interesting to do some A/B comparisons. Anyone?

We have changed the VST plugin pathes according to the new VST3 standard, probably the plugin is in a directory that Samplitude doesn´t scan.

We will look into this next week and fix this.

Maybe you can search for the dll file and order Samplitude to use the respective folder as well? Not too familiar with Samplitude myself...

Cheers, Dirk.

Well, loved what it can do to the low end. BUT, it's hard to control the highs! I wonder if SPL could, on the plugin, make the low end separated from the highs! That would be awsome.

Just set the corner freq to the highest setting, 22kHz. That way it´s effect on the highs is minimized.
Apart from that workaround I would also love to have an unlinked process intensity for the bass only. I never understood why most companies emulate their hardware including shortcomings that would be so easy to overcome in a software version. Like lack of compensation gain (SPL fixed that with a twintube update, fantastic!!!) or lack of wet/dry parameters of dynamics plugins....

@ Dirk/SPL: Are there any plans to put the Kultube and Qure into software one day?

Rock on!

Hi Dirk,

I have the Vitalizer in the same vst folder as the free SPL Attacker. It's visible through WinExplorer, and Samplitude scans that folder and "sees" the Attacker, but not the Vitalizer. Hopefully you can get it sorted out. I'd love to hear this plugin.

That's my experience with the hardware version(regular,non-tube).

The hardware version is one of the very few hardware units I can't live without. You really gotta be gentle with the controls though.

I haven't tried the plug version yet but it's a matter of days if not hours getting it!
It should also work a treat on strings/pads,much like the hardware I guess.

Cheers

I really tried hard NOT to like this plug-in but I made the mistake of installing the demo and fell in love with it, although as others have stated you have to be careful not to overdo it. I was trying to put a moratorium on buying new plugs, but I had to buy this guy. It's really nice. ...Okay, NOW the moratorium begins!!

Dont forget the Softube teaser that they have been "secretly" working on something big for the last few years with a "major developer" that will be released at Namm....

you'll never stop buying plugs, just get over it now - it's like smoking or eating chocolate chips. Just make sure you use the full demo period before commiting so you do less impulse grabs...

I got my issue sorted in Samplitude thanks to some help from Michael at SPL.

Basically I had to remove the Vitalizer .dll out of my vst folder path....manually install the latest iLok drivers...reboot the machine and then replace the Vitalizer .dll back into my vst folder.

Samplitude then saw it and it's now working.

Hi
The best way I found working with it (I have the hardware one for years) is make one track without the Vitalizer and one with the Vitalizer. Put compression before the Vitalizer for the best effect! Do what ever is necessary with the Vitalizer track (high-cut low-cut whatever it needs). Then blend the Vitalizer-track with the original track (ofcourse do with the original track what it needs as well : eq, compression etc.). It works best on group-tracks.
Just my way of working with it, but it gives me a much better sound then the plain Vitalizer sound. Or use it as a send effect for the same but more general effect.
It works like a Pultec EQ with some extras in my opinion . Thats why it effects ALL frequencies from that "corner" frequency (high and low), because that's the principal of the Vitalizer.

I had some trouble with Samp as well. I finally did a search for the dll and moved it into the VST folder. Not even sure where it had gone in the first place...............Works fine now.

Erm...yes...but all my other third party plugs (whether EQ's or Compressors or Reverbs) are not installed under the default Steinberg folders. They get there own little folder with the company's name (Soundtoys etc.).

Funny thing is...under Ableton the SPL plug IS in the SPL folder. Must be a Cubase thing then...

Ah, sorry, then I misunderstood you.

As we said, we have changed folder paths for VST according to new VST3 rules, but we´ll check that and change it again if needed.

THANKS!*

I own SPL's Rangers EQ, TwinTube, and Transient Designer plugs. They're all pretty good, especially the Transient Designer. I like them and I use them on certain things. I tried the demo of the Vitalizer and IMHO it doesn't come up to that standard. This looks like a miss from a company that has done some very nice stuff. Whatever you put it on just screams "artificial" (in a bad way :D) even at low levels.

Before you buy this you should definitely demo the Elysia mPressor which can do a similar kind of thing but is way more flexible and sounds a LOT better. I paid $330 for the mPressor and it was worth every penny. It's one of the two best ITB compressors out there right now, the other being CL-1B.

Sorry, I don't get the comparisson. The Vitalizer is effectively an EQ and the mPressor and CL-1B are compressors. I'd love to know how you'd set up the mPressor to do 'a similar kind of thing'.
