New SSL X-Rack modules

I'm a little surprised that nobody has mentioned that we were showing these prototype modules at the IBC show this weekend.... Obviously the "horticultural" attractions of Amsterdam have slowed some reactions!

They will be officially launched at AES in New York and will be shipping in October.

I did see it, but didn't realize it was new. Probably because it was put away behind a shining Duality heh That was the best thing I saw, or maybe the new Euphonix... No, the SSL heh

We weren't making too big a deal at IBC - it is a broadcast show after all... We will be making more of a big deal at AES.

For those interested there are the VHD input module (with Listen Mic Compressor) and the G Series Stereo Compressor module.

Smile Now that's good news.

Wish I could trade in my two XR618 XL9000-K dynamics for this. I'm afraid I also need to make up some space for the new VHD input modules...

Price tag?

Pretty awesome avatar Darth Vader. That about tops all avatars in my book.

Jim, could you please point me to more module information?

Looks pretty awesome.
& just out of curiosity. Has there ever been a live SSL console. Or has there ever been a band who used an SSL as live touringconsole?

We don't have the pages on our website published yet - waiting for official photography to come back to us.

Watch the site for more info in the coming days...

We've never made a dedicated "live" console. We have a number of digital consoles installs in opera house/theatres, but nothing particularly "touring".

Pricing yet to be officially signed off. You'll have to wait until I get the official go-ahead to post. Not silly money though

Shipping in October.

Since things are going good for me now I'm planning to update my setup quite a bit. I think I've been going to your website every other day thinking about if I should just "go SSL" with either X-Rack or some XLogic Channels coupled with a Duende (though what I've heard about Duende scares me)...

So I MUST ask... HOW much for the parrot?!

Nelson the parrot would not be happy unless perched on the desk of ol' Capn' Jim - YouTube "SSL Pirate" if you haven't already seen the alter ego

Mee too! I think i'm gonna go with 2 x-rack.. one for summing+buss comp and the other one for eq and dynamics.. So i'll have my lil aws 900+

Can you be more specific about the vhd module Jim? It's like a 4 input module+comp and vhd?

It's a mono mic pre (VHD) with separate line input (after the VHD circuit, so use the PAD if you want to add mojo to line signals like synths, MPCs, etc), filters, and the LMC. It can be routed to the Rec Bus, just like the SuperAnalogue Mic pre. Great flexible sounds...

Thumbs up Looks awesome

Jim,

Great work - the new modules look awesome and I'm excited that there are a
bunch of options that I have to choose from before I even take the
plunge into the x rack line.

So, is this a trend from SSL?

Can we expect more modules in the future for the X rack?

Cool,
Chris

PS - Like bforest4, I'm also waiting for a fader pack with automation.

What other modules could there possibly be? Building an Xrack to complete a total mix solution is still going to be super expensive. And when I mean total mix solution I mean lots of channels...with eq, dynamics, etc.etc.

I spoke to Chris J.(service dep.) and he told me it will be innit but my question is when?
i really need that function and i just hope all the aws users wanna have that as well.

Back at the wiena AES in may I was checking out some stuff at the SSL booth (the AWS900 and duende) the guy told me that something in the price range of 10k (i assime EUR since we are in europe) is coming out this fall so quess if that was true we will see some sort of a line mixer/DAW controller soon

hope so

CJ and service department?

He designed the AWS and Duality. Being a bit of a diva I'm not sure he's going to like that!
